One could do some thinking and add a small shock (HD hood shock off eBay) and add it to the swing out. That way if anybody small opens the swigout and they are parked uphill. They won't get the ride of there life or a half moon on somebodies hood.

So unlike the picture I posted, you must pull the pin after unlatching the swing arm then open to a limited radius and then the pin drops into another hole, is that correct.

Thanks for post the close up, is there other pics of this bumper since I am new to the 100 forum.

Right now not many pics. Yes, the pin is in a hole when closed and open. When closed it is a double safety for the latch. If the latch should fail or pop open, the pin will prevent the arms from swinging. So yes, you have to undo the latch, pull the pin and then swing the arm open.

This has been a debate for a while in that it adds an extra step, but we feel it is worth the safety.

I agree with that 100%!

Thanks again.

Even though these are not rated for towing, is there any chance that the new rear bumper will have loops to hook up safety chains for those of us that do use the bumper to tow something?

I thought this thread is about the front bumper?? which was due like two yrs ago...:flipoff2:

Nice looking bumper ..can you post few side pictures too

And I assume you do not have cut the rear cross member

Front bumper, rear bumper; whatever I need both :flipoff2:
When are they going to be available??

I forsee a large purchase in the near future that the :princess: is going to be pissed at... Better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission :whoops:

I think it is a smart move especially for Christo in terms of thinking about safety and in terms of liability. I know he thinks about the liability and that is why his stuff is not rated for towing and extremely overbuilt. With that said, I welded my hole shut so it only locked in the open position. It was a much better solution to the extra step than what the previous owner did. He just removed the pin entirely. When you have a toddler in your arms that extra step can be a real PITA and sometimes impossible. I also went wild and towed with mine too. My first load was our 16 foot stock trailer with 3 cows in it. I'm guessing probably in the 5-6k range. I'm not a person who throws caution to the wind by any means but there is no reason that bumper can't handle towing.

Ok so you put the lives of three innocent cows at stake.

I can picture them looking horrified and 12 legs shaking the hell out of your trailer hoping your bumper won't break.... :D:D:D

I know that these bumpers are very capable of being used for towing, but Slee does not get them DOT (or whoever) approved/rated for towing due to the ridiculous costs involved.

However since many of us will still use the bumpers for towing, I'm hoping Slee will add the safety chain hookups on this version of the rear for those of us that plan on towing regardless of DOT approval.

Slee, have you come any closer to setting a release date? Any chance I can pick one up on the way to Cruise Moab?

OK, here it is. First production bumper fitted. We still have to sort out some solenoid box mounting issues, but this is pretty much it. We are aiming to ship late Feb.

I like the refinements you made Christo! Question: How will this bumper fit and look on a '98-'02 LC since these models have the fascia trim (for lack of the proper term) below the grill and between the bumper?

Nice work, Christo! What's the final weight?

I don't think that is an issue. It dips down a little, but that is in the area where the bumper is open. I assume you are talking about this area?

Final weight without winch or hardware was 134lbs.

Here is a shot of some of the back detail. This will explain the weight.

And our new Patent Pending D Ring Mounts :D
