Glad I found this thread!

What is the best F&F discount to be had for the $280 PM-1 Group 31 Batt?

Next one is in March??

I believe it was about $251

sale is on again.... online

Thanks, I was waiting for that to order a 31M, appreciate it!

Not sure if you read this entire thread but the discount has been discussed and I thought I answered this same question a few post back... The group 34 was on sale last year in the $153 range and it retails for $219 so that's about a $66 dollar savings... So it would be logical to think you'd saved about the same on the 31.
Sears runs this current discount about twice a month...
So if your not in a hurry... then wait and they will most likely run the bigger discount some time in the next 2-3 months.....
I decided it wasn't worth waiting to save $40 bucks over the monthly sale for a sale that may or may not happen. Sears may decide not to run that sale....you never know... I think you have to make a few adjustments in stuffing a group 31 in the battery box...So why not just buy the Group 34 and save even more.

That 31M battery is not only BIG, it's HEAVY. Plus it's expensive, the same construction as the others, and you get less warranty, I think.

Have you checked out the dimensions and weight? I did a chart once, I think. That large battery was about 75LB, vs. 50LB for the regular ones. And it doesn't come close to fitting in the tray. Fiberglass tray, at that. So, maybe you have clear plans for fitting and securing that monster, but if a Group 34 or 35 won't do what you need it to, you have some serious power needs.

I think the OEM battery is 480 CCA. I think the 34 is 850CCA. The 35 is 740? I think the 35 fits right, like OEM, and the 34 requires moving the cables a bit. I had to completely relocate my ground on my 34. I think I ended up mounting it to the charcoal canister bracket, which I ended highly modifying when I got the GM type charcoal canister.

This is just a battery discount thread, but many of us have been through this. In hindsight, I'd just do a 35 in the DS and 34 in the PS. That makes the grounding simpler. Though a pair of 35's probably makes more sense for all around ease of use with a dual battery system. Anyway, hope this works out for you.

As a side note, for those doing a dual battery system, sears will charge you 16 dollars when you go to pick it up if you don't have a core to trade in. Find an old, dead one from a local club member to take with you!

I just picked up a Group 34 and they didn't charge me for not having a trade. Maybe my Sears was slack.

I picked up mine yesterday and they did not ask me for a core or charge me....:clap::clap:

31M Installed

Finally got around to installing my 31M.

I used PRJCT80 write up to complete the install.

Reused the factory J-Bolts and nuts. $7 aluminum 1" angle from Home deport for the hold down bar.

1:banana: job. Hardest part was lifting this beast into place.
