My platinum main battery stopped holding a charge. Wifey went to Sears and they replaced it for free no questions asked. Battery was three years old. She gave them $40 for lunch since they did all the labor for free.

You on the other hand would have been charged out the wazoo.

I talked to Odyssey about the difference between the automotive and marine batteries they make. The extra terminals and marine sticker are it. Both are the same starter/deep cycle battery, same deep discharge recovery ability, same specs.

So if you were holding out for the sweet blue colored DieHard Platinum marine to go on sale because you think it is more "deep cycle" than the Platinum auto, wrong... sorry. Warranty on the marine is not as good as well (3 yeas, not 4 with the prorated 100 month).

Repeat of former post. Answer is that the regular battery is the same as the marine battery, but has a better warranty.

I'm inclined to go with it myself. As far as I know, these batteries are so far beyond what conventional automotive or marine needs and construction are, to begin with, that there's no need to make them different. I am willing to accept that Odyssey or Sears just label them differently for marketing purposes and add that 2nd set of posts to the marine batteries for accessories.

That said, this is 'Mud and better information is always appreciated.

Hmmmm, do we believe this to be true b/c someone said it was so? I would think there was a different make up of some sort due to the nature of it's intended exposure to the elements. imho

The way they were originally designed yes. But the AGM marine vs car designs are the same now cept the application therefore the warranty.

Not sure when the sale is, but I have a sears reward card. I get some kind of deal when ever I use it. Go into sears and apply for one, it free, and ask when the next sale is.

Looks like next Friends and Family Event is March 17th. Don't think I can wait that long unless I can find a battery to borrow since my Optima is dead.

Josh:
Where are you located? I have a couple of optima spares you can use if you are in VA or the Wash DC metro area.

Glad I found this thread!

What is the best F&F discount to be had for the $280 PM-1 Group 31 Batt?

Next one is in March??

That's a big battery... The group 34 which runs $219 was going for $153.00
