Makes me wonder what the farthest drive someone to SAS has made?
I say we don’t count the guy in the high roof 70 that @Bryan picked up last year, what was his name?

Do any easterners drive out regularly?
I’m 21 hours to Ouray assuming interstate and coming in on 50 not Stony.
This will be my 4th year, towing each time. It is over ~2000 miles each way. About 35 hours with stops. More if we grab a hotel. Normally Hot shot with two drivers. I have been over I70 once and RT50 the other times. I know a few have driven their rigs from NY, NC, and FL., on the east coast. I think the west coast is a little closer. I am 100 miles to the Atlantic Ocean.

Now how far has someone driven a 40 out? Not sure, I think the others were 60's and 80's. Now a 40 that far, that wins the Iron Butt award in my book.

I flat towed a 40 with an LX570 three years ago. It worked fine, but It wasn't what I'd call fun in the mountains. We'll trailer this year.

Lauren and Matt drove an LS swapped 80 and 60 from Orlando that year.

Per google maps, it will be a short drive of 1625 miles from Georgia. Lack of AC in the BJ70 should be my only complaint, unless there are construction delays on top.
Prior to SAS, I will be driving to Cruise Moab and Rubithon in the 70. Maybe this will leave me well trained by August

I think you meant Bryan @OlYellr ;) ... @DrRock drove his 60 from Harlem, NY iirc

Furthest distance driven in 10 years of doing this was @EasternYeti from the Boston area in his 60. Second to that has been from Florida. Im not sure on the longest drive in a 40-45.
This is actually driven not trailered, miles from your home base.

Rob West coast is a lot closer.
I live at the beach it’s 1000 miles one way for us.
No hot shotin for us, two days with a camp over in Cider City 😎

Thinks for the tip. I live in Sacramento now for a while and will be driving from here this year.

@Ditcherman it was Mo from Germany last year

I'm a little closer but we split it up into two days with a stop in Cedar City too. Especially with two kids they need the stop lol
Pretty much exactly half way
Going through the Mojave Desert in August IMO Cedar City is the first nice place to stop/camp.

That is why there is an iron butt awarded every year

Bryan @OlYellr has done it twice from Nebraska, not sure how far but farther than Tucson for sure.

@RevISK here it is 10 hours normal driving probably 12-14 in the cruiser ( mainly trying to get it up the mountains)

So there will be 3 of us the shortest of which will be my dad who will be 77 at the time of SAS and all of our gear needed for the week (excluding "spare parts") and my 40 is also my daily driver. We are going to be towing it I already have a tow bar but my dad is worried about me damaging the drivetrain flat towing so I was trying to figure out what most people do flat tow, dolly or car trailer.

But you will need to park it off-site I believe. Just outside the KOA.
No, for realsies. You will likely need to park the trailer outside the campground.

I agree, trailer it !
Really depends on your spot (if there is room ) if you need to park the trailer off site.
They also have had trailer parking across from the maintenance building in the KOA in the past.

😍

I come in from Denver and don't even drive straight through haha. There's too much to see between here and Ouray, all sorts of unexplored nooks and crannies in Colorado. I used to be able to pull a solid 20 hour shift behind the wheel in my early 20s, but those days are over.

@Fyffer Want to do a similar route this year? I want to check out more trails in the area we were in. There are lots of other routes to take too.

I hope I get time to wander a bit on either end this year. Still tying to figure out how to bring both rigs...

I feel like a few years ago, when I was making my reservation, they told me if I had a trailer it would need to be parked outside the CG. Maybe it was in fact because I had a wee site back then?
