I feel like a few years ago, when I was making my reservation, they told me if I had a trailer it would need to be parked outside the CG. Maybe it was in fact because I had a wee site back then?
Well then don’t get me kicked out. I only speak from experience 🤷‍♂️
I have never been told that.
Again I think it comes down to camp site size.

Since yall are talking about driving into Ouray, is anyone coming from Louisiana? I'll be coming from the New Orleans area and will most likely be by myself. I remember seeing in the last SAS, some of yall met up in Amarillo to drive in?

There was an official Texas Convoy for some years. Last year there was an unofficial one that actually met in Northern NM. I'll be coming out of Austin and will likely shoot for southern NM for the first night. You driving your 60 I take it?

Sounds good.

That's the plan.

Well, keep in touch. We might do the same/similar this year.
Will do.

It'll be a hell of a test for the 60 going across Texas in August. Will be driving it a lot this summer to make sure everything is in order.

It’s a Toyota, you’ll be fine.

@RevISK here it is 10 hours normal driving probably 12-14 in the cruiser ( mainly trying to get it up the mountains)

So there will be 3 of us the shortest of which will be my dad who will be 77 at the time of SAS and all of our gear needed for the week (excluding "spare parts") and my 40 is also my daily driver. We are going to be towing it I already have a tow bar but my dad is worried about me damaging the drivetrain flat towing so I was trying to figure out what most people do flat tow, dolly or car trailer.
if renting a trailer, try to avoid one with surge brakes, those suck all of the balls.
But you’ll definitely need one with brakes (I hope that goes without saying).
What are you towing with?

I come in from Denver and don't even drive straight through haha. There's too much to see between here and Ouray, all sorts of unexplored nooks and crannies in Colorado. I used to be able to pull a solid 20 hour shift behind the wheel in my early 20s, but those days are over.

@Fyffer Want to do a similar route this year? I want to check out more trails in the area we were in. There are lots of other routes to take too.
Absolutely

Most all if not all rental trailers will have surge brakes.
In my experience they work fine you just need to lock the brakes out when backing up 😎

Enterprise rent a truck namely a pick up

We have several rental places in central tx that rent trailers with proper trailer brakes. I see surge brakes at places like U-Haul and Penske. I personally can't stand surge brakes. But, herein lies the crux... if your vehicle needs surge brakes on a trailer because it isn't set up with a brake controller, you definitely shouldn't be towing a 40 on a trailer in the first place.

Ok 😘

I think as long as you keep the safety chains on a leash you’re fine.
Or something like that.

Also, refraining from tagging who I really want to tag.

This will be my 4th year, towing each time. It is over ~2000 miles each way. About 35 hours with stops. More if we grab a hotel. Normally Hot shot with two drivers. I have been over I70 once and RT50 the other times. I know a few have driven their rigs from NY, NC, and FL., on the east coast. I think the west coast is a little closer. I am 100 miles to the Atlantic Ocean.

Now how far has someone driven a 40 out? Not sure, I think the others were 60's and 80's. Now a 40 that far, that wins the Iron Butt award in my book.
1350 miles for me, nearly 3000 miles for last years trip total. But don’t give me the iron butt award, I’ve got 12 way electric BMW seats.
Planning on cruise control this year too.

Will do.

My wife is from El Paso/New Mex. Our 62 has made that trek across a few times, although the 62 was a lot younger when we were driving it like that, sooo…
Crossing this place on I-10 is a mental test, esp if you start in Nola, the sign at the La. border is a total buzzkill when it shows mileage to El Paso. Lol. That said, all maps from here to CO take you north through Dallas then over the top through Amarillo etc.

I made SAS this year and will be heading up through Dallas - Amarillo. Be good to link up with others along the way.

I plan on trailering. its 24 hr drive. don't have the time to go that far in a 40! they said there was trailer parking at the campground somewhere, if theres not enough room at your spot.

Yep your covered ;)

I “only” have 680 miles out to Ouray almost completely on 2 lane highways. Needless to say, that drive is an adventure thru western KS in early August. The “good” thing is I get to stop to fill up with gas every 2 hours to stretch my back with and get some feeling back in my leg with the 40’s small tank (and lucky if I get 12mpg with a tailwind). We drove it straight thru on the way home after SAS 7 and it took just under 14 hrs and I vowed I would never do that again! For SAS 8 we drove the 80 and it felt like riding in luxury. We went out to Moab for a few days after SAS and then drove it straight thru going back home ~850 miles (14hrs) and would do that again without hesitation.

This year I’m tentatively planning to trailer the 40 to canon city to my cousins and then drive the 40 the remainder of the way to Ouray. There’s still a lot of time between now and Aug, so plans can change, but I always enjoy driving the 40 in the mountains with the windows down and the refreshing mountain air.
