Agreed. I would definitely like to get in with some folks going up there. I made the drive to Ouray last August in the GX. I know the pain of entering Texas and seeing mile marker 800-something to start…..My wife is from El Paso/New Mex. Our 62 has made that trek across a few times, although the 62 was a lot younger when we were driving it like that, sooo…
Crossing this place on I-10 is a mental test, esp if you start in Nola, the sign at the La. border is a total buzzkill when it shows mileage to El Paso. Lol. That said, all maps from here to CO take you north through Dallas then over the top through Amarillo etc.
I made SAS this year and will be heading up through Dallas - Amarillo. Be good to link up with others along the way.
Yes, I was pretty close last year coming from NYC officially but I had driven the truck down from CT a few days earlier. We did 2000 miles on the way out due to sightseeing etc. Will be doing something similar this year in the 75, woohooo.Furthest distance driven in 10 years of doing this was @EasternYeti from the Boston area in his 60. Second to that has been from Florida. Im not sure on the longest drive in a 40-45.
This is actually driven not trailered, miles from your home base.
LS, Nordic Blue, in a 60, with a manual, gotta love it.
Your dad is right Dan, if you leave the drivetrain intact. You'll need to be sure the front hubs are free/unlocked, and you'll disconnect the drive shaft from the rear axle, pull it off the transmission, and hurl it onto the driver's side floorboard. Don't lose the bolts.View attachment 4105624
@RevISK here it is 10 hours normal driving probably 12-14 in the cruiser ( mainly trying to get it up the mountains)
So there will be 3 of us the shortest of which will be my dad who will be 77 at the time of SAS and all of our gear needed for the week (excluding "spare parts") and my 40 is also my daily driver. We are going to be towing it I already have a tow bar but my dad is worried about me damaging the drivetrain flat towing so I was trying to figure out what most people do flat tow, dolly or car trailer.
Yes, HURL it.and hurl it onto the driver's side floorboard. Don't lose the bolts.
Good thing too. The GMRS task force is thick up thereNext Item off of the to do list is i paid for my GMRS license today.

JK, it's no biggie. It just holds you accountable if you do/say something stupid or illegal over the airwaves is my guess.I was going to almost be riding dirty this weekend on my relic run I have planned in AZ. but I got it today.

I bought my chinesium one from scamazon for like $80I want a vehicle- mounted GMRS. The problem is I have no flicking idea which one to get.
Them ain't cheap and I hate getting a portion of feces in error.
I hear these work nicely for that purpose, especially if they need to last hundreds of miles:You can also just disconnect the driveshaft at the diff end and zip tie it up to the frame. Saves putting a dirty driveshaft in the passenger compartment and makes reassembly easier. It’s a good approach to try out in case you need to do this on the trail at some point too.
I think quite a few have the midland mxt275. The radio can be installed out of sight inside the center armrest and then feed the mic out to the center console. I’ve seen them listed on eBay for under $150. Midland also offers the same radio in a higher powered 50w version if you want extended range (overkill for most of us).I want a vehicle-mounted GMRS. Yep, second the MTX275. With aux speaker, of course. Mines mounted under the seat on some Velcro.I think quite a few have the midland mxt275. If you’re a HAM (I am) and you’re really into it (I’m not) you might find the simplistic controls all on the mic, well, to simple, not enough functionality or something. Not radio enough.(Quietly rushing to out to research the MXT275)
