And bro welcome to owning a cruiser. Enjoy the sickness. Some of us have been dealing with oil leaks for years! Let us know if we can help a newbie like you with anything else

Not new to Land Cruisers. Just new to the weaker 1FZ-FE...

Mine has had a similar knock for a while. The mechanic that listened to it told me that it doesn't sound like rod knock, but probably a valve issue. I just fixed my exhaust leaks and it didn't get rid of the sound, so I think there is some possibility that it's a valve issue. I'll be getting a second opinion soon.

I dont know how many times ive trolled you in this regard and every time you make it a point to tell me how long youve owned cruisers for

My brother in laws truck was making one hell of a racket, I was sure he'd blown the motor. Took us awhile to find a chunk of rubber missing from a drive belt, that was all it turned out to be.

Already pulled a sample this morning... Going to change the oil tomorrow and see if there is any shrapnel. Didn't see any when I pulled the sample.

Did you run the engine up to operating temp immediately prior to taking the sample? Over night settling will render inaccurate analysis as per Blackstone.

Yes. The burns on my hands are evidence!

I'm truly curious to hear what they have to say. I'm pulling a sample on my 92 out of curiosity. I run Rotella 15w-40 year round in it.

The 93 I switched to 5w-30 for the trip but have added so much oil that I'm not sure what it will say...

5w-30 from the dealer which is a semisynthetic. Or whatever you call it.

1993 FZJ80 335k miles

She has purred like a kitten for the past 23k miles since I got her. Yesterday the low oil light came on (she burns a fair amount, no leaks). I dumped a couple of quarts of Delo 15w-40 in and drove on.

Today I pulled on the interstate and heard the noise below. I was on my way to an appointment so I said FAWK it and drove it about 150 miles.

Ideas? Thoughts?

Mine makes a similar noise, I meant to expand but was on my phone and fat fingered it... @KliersLC gave me a hand trouble shooting the plethora of issues that are plaguing mine and we both seem to think that a lot of the noise that is coming from mine is stemming from the powersteering pump, had a stethoscope and searched around a bit and that is what it led us to, started out with lots of noise in the front of the valve cover, was thinking cam bearings but now I'm not so sure...still trouble shooting as time allows @LS1FJ40 mine makes a similar noise you might be able to hear here...highlights of my debacle..

This doesn't sound sinister to me. I would look at external spinning bits.
Was there any change in power or oil pressure or anything else?

It's never been quick. Haven't noticed a change. I've put 250+ miles on it since it started doing it. No change in oil pressure. Only the tick.

I had my son rev the gas a little in park while I listened under the hood. I removed the oil cap and it appeared to get louder. So that means it should be coming from under the valve cover. Right?

It still wasn't "loud" or a hard "knock".

Its hard to tell from the video you posted, but it sounds like a "once around" from a belt or a fan blade or something similar. It should be fairly easy to localize if you stick your head under the bonnet.
