Rod Knock or Exhaust Leak or something else...

Good ear!

Just left the muffler shop. We lifted it up. No echo at the pan. Doesn't sound like it's coming from the bottom end. Exhaust is tight, no leaks. My buddy there (not a Land Cruiser mechanic by any means) thinks it's lifter/rocker related.

"Dude, it's got 335k time for some maintenance!"

Never adjusted the valves on a 1FZ-FE. Is it difficult?

Can the rockers be adjusted?

I'm a :banana::banana: mechanic...

Also noticed fresh oil leaking at the bottom front of the motor. What could that be? I've replaced the oil pump cover and crankshaft seal. Is there another seal down there?
Dude if you are :banana::banana: than myself and half the rest of these try-hards are negative 12 :banana:.

Nah, I don't know sh!t about wrenching. But I know who to ask questions and who to listen to. And who to ignore. And I'm fairly fearless as far as breaking sh!t.

Blatant hijack, but here's what mine sounds like. Do you guys think it's the same thing?

That almost sounds like a diesel, does it quiet down once it builds temperature or does it stay like that? To me that sounds like an internal knock, mine sounds rough but not that rough...

I put the stethoscope on the motor all over again because I was being paranoid. Nothing. Put it on the power steering reservoir and HOLY CRAP! I about blew my ear drums out. I can definitely hear it there.

It smooths out a bit when it warms up, but it doesn't disappear completely.

My 3FE sounds like a diesel...

All seriousness: Did you introduce debris or anything funky when replacing the oil pump cover?
Was listening to George Clinton....It's F'd

No. I don't think so. It was 8k miles ago.

I have an identical noise and have seen others with similar noise issues quite frequently in the last 16 months. Engine runs strong and nothing to note with performance. I've driven it over 5k miles and it still runs well. My last check is the gear box and oil pump gear which others have done.

well my knock is much worse. I have sent it into a shop with a guy that was the lead at our local toyota shop and started his own repair shop. The worst estiment is 7500 for a new motor. I am going to have him go through the whole truck. I am thinking a new 1993 cruiser for around 15,000. motor, trany, diffs, not much else left over. I have new crv axles and the front end rebuild kit all there. New drive flanges all of it..What do you guys think.
