I did the transfer case mounts as engine mounts on the 22re, I don’t have dual cases but they seem to be doing just fine.

If you want to watch a guy learn from the school of hardknocks then tune in every once in a while.

Well, time to own my statement in post #1.

Everything on the rebuild had been going great. Got the bottom end together, new oil pump packed with Vaseline, timing cover on, rear sump pan on blah blah blah.

Found a break today and was planning to put the head on. Moved the head to my bench and pulled the cams so I can drop it onto the ARP studs and my dumb ass thinks “hey maybe I should check the sealing surface to make sure there is no schmutz on there” and I flip the head back to look.

Ping ping ping. I hear valve buckets bouncing around on the floor by my feet and immediately know what I just did. 9 of 16 buckets fell and some shims popped off… 🤦‍♂️😂

I gotta own it when I pull some vegetable brain move, and this was one.

Oh well, it could be worse. I’ll get the buckets and shims sorted and am hoping to have the engine mounted by this weekend.

Long block is complete. 🤘

Not going to get it mounted this weekend. My machine gun team from Afghanistan is having a get together this weekend in Texas so I grabbed a ticket out there. Been 13 years since I’ve seen the boys. The project can take a back seat. 🍻

Yep... Done that sort of thing many times...

Been spending time with family at the beach and camping near Tahoe, so not much progress worth noting.

However, a clean body, frame, auto trans/tcase, block, and some other items came up for a “decent” price in todays terms. I figure I better squirrel this away since these things aren’t getting cheaper and my body is beat. I’ll sell everything but the body. After that and selling my old body I should about net out at a free, or real cheap, clean body upgrade.

I have a second kid due in November. So my plan is to get the 3RZ swap done before that, since I won’t be spending much time building. The body swap I hope to do in 3-4 years from now when I have more time.

Fit motor up to check everything out regarding exhaust location/heat shielding needed and it was so hot my dumbass pulled it back out without looking. 106 deg heat wave here and I wasn’t thinking straight. AZtoyman I’m sure you’re rightfully laughing at me for being a sissy. Screw the heat, man.

Threw a new Aisin clutch master and slave in with the ORS clutch line and called it a day. I’m thinking I’ll put the adhesive heat shield on once engine is in place now.

Decent progress today.

Got the firewall insulation done. I’ll probably add a little more on the right side, because, why not? Thanks for the 3RZ swap notes thread @liveoak 🍻

New Aisin clutch.

Annnnd the engine is in. Still need to put all bolts in, but packed it up for the day after getting dowel pins and 2 bolts set.

And liveoak once again… 🤝😂
I'm not sure that the LCE header will fit in that space. Toyota changed the cast manifold to a mini header in 2000 or 2001 so you have that option if it doesn't work out.
Exhaust Manifold, 17141-75080
Exhaust Heat Shield, 17167-75100

Ordered the OEM 2000+ exhaust. I got the LCE header on sale. Hopefully I can resell and maybe take a $50 hit. Anyone want them? Haha.

Wow. Highly unimpressed with Toyota Part Number: 17141-75080

This thing is nasty

Really wishing I got the LCE 3RZ swap exhaust that has an EO number. I never noticed it because they don’t have it under the 3RZ exhaust section.

Yep from Maita Toyota. Local dealership had it online for competitive price. They drop shipped it from another dealership or something, but damn.

I think I’ll drive it down there and see about returning it.

i would almost be willing to put money on this being counterfeit. those welds look like a blind mans first day on mig.
look at these online. look at the toyota welds.

Dang, I don't remember mine looking like that. I had mine ceramic coated.

Just got back from the Maita Toyota dealership. The guy at the counter agreed it looked like a middle schooler welded it, but every time he brought it to his manager his manager sent him back out. He told me I'd have to pay 20% restocking fee. I sent him back to the manager. One time he came back out and said "My manager says the welds are warrantied. If they fail just bring it back." After the 3rd time the manager sent him back out there, I said bring that manager out here. The manager took some pushing, I had to say there is no way this is an OEM Toyota quality part and that I feel it may be counterfeit. He eventually gave in on a verbal "we will order another and go from there." I got the feeling he may try to just give me the same one back, so I casually mentioned that I took pictures of this one and would love to compare it to a new one.

Interestingly I found a pic on an amazon review that looks similar, but it looks like this one ran out of gas mid way. So far I'm not thrilled about this whole manifold SNAFU.
