How close does your guys’ 4plus tire carrier sit to the barn door tailgate hinge? I’ve got a Agualu aluminum tub and I replaced the rear bumper/cross member for a heavy duty one. Things are quite fitting… just wondered what that gap should look like.

It may be the crossmember you added isn't exactly the same dimensions as oem. Also it may be your tub needs to be further forward on the frame.

For posterity's sake this seems like a good place to document what I added to the swing tire carrier.
Like mentioned by others I drilled and tapped a hole to add a grease fitting to the pivot.

I also had a pad made up out of delrin to go between the lockdown clamp and the arm.

I like that piece behind the latch.

I ordered one last week and asked to have a piece of pipe that is close to the hub size so that once I have it up there it can take the weight as I am lining up the rim with the studs. Dave has a piece of pipe laying around the shop and is adding it no charge.

Smart

I have 35s now and I am 66. Stock size on the 15" rims were not bad I could mount and dis mount them no problems. These are heavier then the ones on my 1-ton.
I can lift the weight but is hard for me to mount back onto the axle hubs so made sense to me.

I welded a piece of tube to mine for this exact reason. I also used that tube as a receiver for a license plate mount.

Booger welds (sorry)

Did all years with the half swing out doors have that spacer between the hinges and body? I don’t see any on my 74
No, they do show a rubber pad on SOR’s diagrams for 1974. But I just cut some small pads out of rubber. Also, anywhere I’m bolting paint on to paint, I’ve cut a very thin 1/16 gasket to help preserve the surface. I don’t like the idea of paint on paint…. And making small adjustments to hinges and body panels is a lot easier when you need to. My OCD kicks in hard with paint work.

My 77 came with the tire carrier plus cooler/jerry can basket. I'll be using jerry cans vs. the box in there now. I just removed my rear aux fuel tank. The 4plus stuff seems very well built.

I have installed the 4 Plus running boards and they are also very well built. I have hit the stock running boards on the trail and did very littlie damage so these should be able to take even more abuse.

Are the shackles 3/4", I will need to get 4 for my rig.

I would love that diamond plate chest to carry tools and such in. Do you know if it's commercially available or is it a custom job?
Follow up question - can you secure it to the basket somehow so that someone doesn't steal it?

It came with the truck so I don't know. It was just zip tied to the carrier. I have it out now to fit some jerry cans with fuel and water. I will likely mount it on the roof rack I have installed.

Installed the 4Plus tire carrier on my 40. Man that thing sure is hefty. When I had the rig painted, I asked the painter to get rid of the holes on the body in preparation for this bumper-mounted carrier. I had @lcwizard delete the hitch receiver since I wanted to put the rear step there and I'm fairly confident I won't be towing anyway. Here's a picture with the rear step installed. I wasn't sure it would fit and could not find any information before buying it. So if anyone is thinking of buying this tire carrier and is wondering if the rear step will fit, the answer is yes.
