How do you have the ability to remove the transmission to replace the clutch but forget to put the TOB and clutch fork on?
Ugh! Reminds me of when I did an SM420 conversion on mine years ago. Went through the 420 and replaced the bearings before the install. Put it all together and got it hung on the bellhousing. Hooked up everything else. Went to put it in gear and wouldn’t go. Realized at that point that there is a spacer on the main shaft (which I was warned about) that I put in backwards. So had to drop everything back out. Can’t remember if I had to pull the t-case off, but had to tear back into the tranny just to flip the spacer! What a pain! Huge lesson 😅

You guys are scaring me. I have a whole pig to reassemble at some point.

As a related aside, I tore my entire dash apart on my FZJ75 for cleaning not too long after I bought it. When I finished cleaning and reassembling I had 3 pieces of hardware left over. IIRC it was two small screws and a nut.

Tore it all back apart until I found where they went. Ugh.

I would've thrown em in glove box 😳🤔🧐😉🤣🤣

Yup, me too. I would’ve counted coming up 3 left a win! Hope you don’t drive yourself crazy Greg putting her back together.

Full disclosure, I did throw them in a ziplock bag and put them in the glovebox. They stayed there exactly until the next weekend. Couldn't stand it.

Hey, I put a clutch plate in backwards one time years ago. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working right. :) I learned that lesson.
That is a tough lesson to learn!

"There's always time to do it right the second time!"

Seems like the right place for this post. Noticed the passenger low beam was out on the '97 LC that one of my sons drives. Looked it up and IIRC MSRP was $27.96 and Toyota of Richmond had it listed for $19.50. I had just placed a couple of orders with them and didn't want to order just a headlight bulb or two so I stopped by the local Toyota dealer (Auburn, Alabama). Parts guy goes and gets the bulb and says that will be something like $45 and change. I did a quick calc in my head and told him that was 60% above list price. He looked at his computer screen and said, "no sir; it's 62% above list".

I went home and ordered the bulb and a few other items and it will be here mid week.

Had the same crap pulled on me by a local stealership. Needed a new AICV o-ring. Didn't feel like paying for shipping for it. So, ordered one from the stealership. The price was twice as high as the online price... In the end, I spent a lot on gas and paid way too much for the dang o-ring (because I was impatient... lol).

So most owners aren't like us; they don't buy parts unless they need something replaced or repaired. So they probably aren't making a ton extra off parts sales. However, I assume every service/repair that goes through their shop that isn't warranty work has that much mark up over list on the parts used. That is a lot of money over a year of an average Toyota dealership.

Agreed. I've read recently that dealers are relying more and more on their service departments for profits. Doesn't surprise me a bit.

They be like that.
Last time I was there it was like 10:45 on a Thursday morning and the parts department was still locked behind a cage.
They "open" at 9:am and they're all there drinking their coffee and all sorts of things that don't particularly look like working...
When I asked the sales dork "what's up"
I was chewed out as if I was some sort of punk. Then he threatened to call the cops and told me to leave...
I'll buy my landcruiser parts somewhere else...
They be like that...

All 3 Las Vegas Toyota dealerships charge markups for almost everything except some basic maintenance items: oil filters, plugs. I try to buy from Serra Toyota of Decatur who sell for 30%+ normally online and then a couple times a year has an additional 25% on top of that.

Saw this in Nor CA, $3000
