Received new battery cables from @Fourrunner today and also a new fusible link kit from @Coolerman. Installed both with a charged up battery I had laying around. The stock positive wouldn’t reach the gear reduction starter and was starting to corrode.

Turned the motor over, wasn’t getting gas up to the filter or the carb. Fuel gauge didn’t register, so in threw about 3 gals of ethanol free in the tank. Started leaking from the large vent hose down at the tank. Still no fuel up to the engine after lots of cranking. Next step I think will be to run compressed air from the front to the tank via the feed line, and ordered a new fuel pump from CityRacer.

Maybe if I keep poking it, it’ll squeal 🐷

Rear window gear should be here next week and hopefully get the rear window working.

Great work!

The fuel tank is a looooong way away from the carb in a 55. I've tried cranking/pumping gas for awhile with little luck. I've tried lifting the back end to let gravity help. I've made a 'tool' out of an old screwdriver attached to a drill to assist the mechanical fuel pump to deliver gas without cranking/draining the battery. There are a few other tricks too. Your mechanical fuel pump may be working just fine. The easiest/quickest way to start my 55 after it's been sitting a while and there is no gas in the carb (check the sight glass) is to pour gas directly into the carb/venturis until you see the sight glass about half full of gas. It usually fires right up. Give it a shot- it works great.

Put a new clear filter upstream of carb in the engine bay so you dont send dirt from the tank into your fresh rebuilt carb!

Maybe this is why my fuel pump wasn’t pumping fuel 🧐 Broken spring just laying in the arm.

Pulled the drivers rear door panel off to investigate why the door wouldn’t latch. Of course had to drill the head off an arm rest screw that was stripped out.

Found the arm that engages the star sprocket was stuck up, wouldn’t reset. So I PB blasted it, and worked all the linkages. Got it working, now the door latches shut. Just sticks out too far. Tried adjusting the frame latch in, but no dice. I’ll dive into it more later, just happy it latched and isn’t worn out.

The passenger side doesn’t latch either, so same treatment coming for that. Probably do all of them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Didn’t have my gasket scraper, so haven’t installed the new fuel pump yet.

New fuel pump installed, what a pain in the a$$. No room to maneuver. Added a 100 microns fuel filter prior to the Toyota filter just in case I didn’t know what would come out of the tank. Cranked about 10 times and saw fuel in the filter!!

Cranked some more and got gas to the carb, but it wouldn’t start. Need to check the power for the idle solenoid. Plus, The return line banjo fitting at the carb was leaking along with the sight glass window. Ugh. Progress none the less.

Back at the pig again today…

Pulled the carb site glass window out and replaced the O’ring, don’t know how I missed that on the rebuild. Replaced the washer at the return line, both leaks fixed. Still have a pin hole leak on the hard line, will cut it out and replace with soft line for now, just the return line.

Found the connector I was using for the idle solenoid didn’t have keyed power, so I found the actual wire and got that properly hooked up. Clicks now with key on.

Removed the smog pump and installed one of @FJ40Jim pulleys to take its place.

A couple pumps of the gas pedal, turn the key… boom.. fired up and ran on full choke.

There is a banging / rattling noise that I need to pinpoint. Almost sounds like the starter isn’t disengaging all the way or the fan hitting the shroud. Something not quite right.

Got the new reman gear reduction starter straight from the Toyota dealer,
28100-60070-84, popped it in. Fired right up. All banging and rattling noises are gone. That’ll teach me to save a couple bucks from Amazon.

Also picked up a set of 4 OEM steel rims 😬

Deciding if I just want to pull the 33” KO2’s off my 40 Old Blue and put them on the pig. Or leave these black and throw Kenda’s on the pig, or powder/paint these. 🤔 Thoughts?

Circa 2017, rusted out wagon wheels with 31” tires.

No love for the white spoke wagon wheels anymore. Not sure why they were all the rage back in the 80’s, but apparently the mystique has worn off and everyone’s gone back to the original steels.
With your color scheme, I’m kinda thinking white powder-coat with hubcaps would look pretty good.
🤔
