Got the bed pulled off. I still haven’t found any surprise rust which is pretty cool.

I’ve found lots of other surprises like frame cracks and fender cracks and bent body mounts. But no rust! 😬
man @yotadude520 what kind of racket are you running here? Selling old pickups with cracked frames you should be ashamed :flipoff2:

Replaced smashed factory crossmember with this skidmember I had from a part out. In order to remove the body lift I had to shift the trans/xfer over about an inch to the drivers side. I cut and welded the skid to accomplish that. Pictures are terrible.

looking good.

Gonna use some washers on those bolts correct?

Yes I will use washers. I’m actually going to get new bolts altogether. The factory ones aren’t long enough for the thicker flange on the skid plate.

Picked up a 1983 parts truck. Almost broke in half getting on the trailer and the rear axle is held in by hopes and dreams.

Engine bay is 100% complete and interior looks great. All emissions stuff is there so if anyone needs something please shoot me a PM - I won’t be using any of it.

I don’t get to keep the axles but I’m using the interior and whatever else I can to improve my truck.

Fronts looking a little better. Smoothed out the crunched front fender and put new headlight doors on.

Bed is back on. Needs a couple more things before I bolt it down. I like it on 33s without the body lift. 35s might look better though. It’s already slow - can’t get much worse.

I still miss my 1982 SB. This isn't helping.

I still miss this 1980.... 😭

but I'm pumped to see what @BlueCruiser84 does with it. She's in good hands.
So far all I've done is coat every accessible (and some inaccessible) surface in oil and made it miserable to work on.

Parts truck is gutted.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to patch this cracked sec to on of the “new” dash pad? Bondo? Saw someone used liquid nails.

I fired Patty up because it's been sitting for so long I needed to hear her run. I fixed a couple exhaust leaks which allowed me to hear the remaining exhaust leak which is a huge leak at the manifold. I immediately had flashbacks to the 22re exhaust manifold I removed and stripped a couple holes in the head. It would APPEAR that two of the nuts fell off the studs and one stud fell out cause an obvious leak.

Anyone have any tips for a manifold gasket replacement? I'm wondering if the heat shield/insulator will be burned up. Is order of operations for reinstall gasket/insulator/manifold?

I had to pull the exhaust manifold off when I replaced the head gasket a few years back. It didn't give me much trouble but IIRC I had to helicoil the first bolt by the PS pump. Order of ops is just as described.

I run a gasket from an 85 I think. Just one piece I didn’t keep the heat shield thing
I was wondering if one of those would work. Any negative effects of not having the heat shield? It would be nice to remove it. I assume it's just to keep all that heat off the various Hydraulics on the Drivers side.

Well that is one of the few nuts that stayed on the stud. 3 or 4 of the nuts backed off. I'm trying to decide if I want to use the Toyota exhaust manifold nuts I have or if that is asking for trouble when I (inevitably) have to remove the manifold again. Seems these nuts don't like to stay on the manifold studs.

I really want to ditch this heat shield and run the single gasket like a 22re. Am I asking for trouble?

Are there enough threads to double nut the manifold on?

It would certainly be close. I’m sure there is a part number for longer studs that could be used.
