Any quick links for electrical diagram? I can buy them off eBay, but that doesn’t help me today.
I have the Haynes, but the 4 page PDF is too big to post here. Here is the first page.

Does anyone have any pictures of the ps fender wiring? Sounds like there should be fusible links in there? Maybe that’s what’s on the firewall?
Fuseable link was off the battery. At least it was on my 82.

That "thing" on the FW should not be there. It appears to be a Ford style starter solenoid. With all the shyt in that picture i would start tearing there.
Pappys diagram should get you there.
I have a fsm for an '80 at home if you end up needing more.

Got it started! It was my “fault” all along. Someone removed the ignition cylinder and rather than replace it just uses a screwdriver - classy. I was turning the screwdriver too far and the switch wasn’t making contact except for when it passed by where it would have stopped with a proper ignition cylinder. Hence the half crank.

Anyway, new question: what is this? A fuel pump? Has wires and (what appears to be) a fuel line running through it.

****edit**** it’s a fuel pump and it is wired in really badly. Assuming these had mechanical fuel pumps from the factory, but I can’t find where it is or where it would be.

I wonder if the PO was having starter issues due to the old 12(?) Guage wire that is supposed to activate the starter and installed the Ford starter solenoid for that reason. I know I had to do it. I'd start there though. There's no reason to have that many wires going to it and not the battery.

I bought a brand new fusible link from Toyota for my 1990 in the spring of 2020. Was not cheap but they are still available. I assume they cross over to other vehicles as well. I think the part number I had was superceded so it took a bit of searching to find. Bolted straight in to my dual battery project.

I don’t think it’s a solenoid. I think it might just be a “hotspot” (that’s my word for a place with battery voltage). It has some off-road lights running to it, the starter wires, and two smaller factory looking ring terminals.

As for your fuel pump - factory was an in tank electric. Yes that crusty block thing is a fuel pump. They are cheap but usually work pretty well.

I believe a replacement is in order. This thing looks like its probably original to the build.

Were there ever 20r powered trucks that came with mechanical pumps? I'm getting mixed information on the internet. I ask because I don't see any factory wiring for an electric fuel pump. I know this truck has a Celica motor in it and that they typically had electric pumps - the way the pump is wired makes me wonder if it was mechanical and the motor swap necessitated an aftermarket electric pump.

The 20R and 22R were mechanical pumps, mounted to the side of the cylinder head opposite the distributor.

Is there a block off plate?

I run an electric on mine. 4.3L GM in an '80 frame, r150, '85 Xcab body on a short bed frame.

I certainly don’t see one. Could it be under the lift hook? Seems to me like the intake manifold would be in the way.
