I started removing the Bedliner yesterday and was planning on painting it when I got it all off. I am kind of leaning toward lightly sanding some spots to blend some of the colors better and to make the surface a little smoother. Then just seal it with clear coat. I like the way the paint looks now a lot better than the black bed liner all over

Looking awesome! I would love to get to the original paint, located a few layers underneath. What’s the trick? I don’t have a bed liner layer to remove...just paint

Cheers

Thanks I just finished up the dash, windshield frame and rear barn doors a hour ago. Really happy with how it came out and how much better the truck looks already. The way the dash turned out is my favorite part on the truck paint wise. It looks a lot better with color and it’s patina instead of the black Bedliner

What product did you use to remove it?
Aircraft paint remover or stripper from rustoluem. They didn’t have the normal aircraft stripper at auto zone and had the rustoluem brand on sale for $13 instead of $41. I did the entire exterior of the truck, windshield frame, and dash with one gallon

Awesome. As soon as the weather breaks, im going for it. My interior of my ‘74 still has the original paint. The exterior has some additional coats. Stoked to see what is under there...

Thanks!

It’s great that way. Don’t clear coat it though. Does not need that. Just preserve it with wax and oil.

@Tennessee80 ive used a citrus stripper on 2 vehicles now. It will eat the new paint but won’t bother the original to much. You just have to use a Brillo pad to scrub the new paint off. It works wonders and there are no fumes.

Nolan you use boiled linseed oil right? What kind of wax do you use

@cruiserboy14 where did you pick up that product?

Thx!
Sorry misread your post. I think you can get the citrus paint remover from Home Depot

Depends on how much paint is there. If it’s all mixed like your dash then I would not use wax at all.

My 40 and 45 are all rust Converter and BLO and Fluid Film.

Sure you have to repeat it but a clear locks you into that for life and traps rust.

I wrote up my thoughts here

Sounds good thanks

I like Black Star rust converter. Looks good @FJ40 MATT. I would throw some rusted, patina stealies on it and some 7.50-15LTs, running it topless and doorless! For those wondering about the beige rig lurking in the background of Matt’s shop, here is a better pix

— not patina but absolutely COOL! Safari anyone?

@FJ40 MATT i love the blue patina!! I’ve never seen one.
Thanks it was my daily driver for over a year. Every time I took Fiona up to the beach for a walk someone would always come up to me and say you better not paint that truck.
