Me too, doing the horn ring & pin. Have the steering wheel off & just picked up the ring & pin this afternoon.

Great minds think alike.👍🤔👍
Bingo. Just don’t mount the wheel so you can movie the truck before putting the ring back in. I did that and smoked something. Will dig into the electrics to figure out if there’s any damage. Also have to figure out why the radio is not getting power. Hmmm…electrics are not my favorite thing to diag.

Interesting, don’t know why doing that would cause an issue.

Should have clarified. I removed the ring while cleaning the wheel. Left the pin in. Slapped the wheel on to move the truck and the pin was making contact with the metal part of the hub that’s usually protected by the brass ring. Hence the smoke

Ok, since we are talking crazy moves while doing this job…here’s what I did:

Steering wheel off, pin removed. Insterting new pin along with the spring which is similar to the spring on a ball point pin. Pushing pin in with my right hand so as to be able to put the very small ‘C’clip on the bottom of the pin with my left hand. Get the ‘C’clip on…but I wasn’t certain it was actually on…so I pulled it back off for another try..BINGO.. the spring & pin took off like a space ship. Found the spring laying in the front seat. Spent the next 1.5 hours looking for the pin that shot out. Removed everything in the back seat looking for the damn pin. No luck.

No luck finding the pin…went back to the dealer yesterday & ordered a new part.😱😱😱

Oh man…I just sit in the drivers seat and stare. I know it’s weird, but I’m a bit off at times :).
Just ordered a few horn pins and rings from PartSouq. Everything horn related is demoed at the moment. View attachment 3750727And
I’m pretty partial to that view.
Yes that’s my trucks fat AZzz muddying up the waters, but that copper is crazy pretty.

I happened to be in the room when the smoke happened. At first I thought it was some crazy “Jimmy technique”.
Turns out it was his way of diagnosing a problem he didn’t know he had in the first place.

In other words, Brilliant.

Ive owned 60s for 5 years now and have already spent a not insignificant amount of my life looking for those damn microscopic horn-pin c-clips. Found one of them while moving out of my shop last year. It was under a workbench almost all the way back against the wall.

@CruiserTrash i know ‘exactly’ what you mean regarding that crazy small C clip. I lost that too, fortunately it comes along with the pin & spring when I bought it from the dealer…$15 for the pin, spring & that small C clip.

Fortunately I still had the C clip from the old worn down pin…so I now have a spare…you ain’t finding that small of a C clip at Ace Hardware.😝

Did I mention ordering from Partsouq??? I ordered 10 each of the spring, pin and clip as well as 10 rings. Just trying to reduce the freight as a percent to the overall purchase price. ADDICTION!!! That and if I start losing sh*t in the barn I have backups :).

Fantastic video....I've got a bit more confidence after watching it but am still scared s***less
I followed that video for my headliner as well and it's great. Just be conscious of now pulling the headliner forward as you go or you'll have the a-pillar fabric too far forward as I did.

Dorking out a bit… simple things like this get me super excited. Fortunately I had zero issues with the clip on the horn pin. Depressed it from the front side and I had a clean shot with some small needle nose pliers.

I finally got started but after the forth bow from the rear repeatedly popping out and a lot of cursing, I decided to take a break. I’ve got the cruiser corps vinyl headliner and it seems like there’s plenty of material in the rear to wrap around and apply adhesive. If I push the material on the sides flush to the roof, it doesn’t extend through the window openings. Should I let it hang a bit and not push it flush?

If I remember right I had to cut the end of each section the rod slides through like an inch or two on each side. This allows more material to hang down on the sides. I’d call Mike with Cruiser Corps and verify. For some reason I recall him providing this tech tip to me over the phone.

Also, you’ll end up stretching to reach the edges. You’ll want it really tight to get rid of the wrinkles. Here’s a shot of mine before I started gluing the sides

What Jimmy said. I think I cut the material on the ends of the rods a little as well to get mine to reach but my headliner was from SOR. You do need to stretch the material to get it smooth and to reach the edges. Mine had enough material that I was able to trim a little after gluing it to the body. Hope you took the tip from the video to zip tie the front bow to the header panel. It helps a lot!

Thanks for the helpful tips. I’ve got a few more bows in but am struggling with the second to last one. It keeps popping out when I flip the bow around. Are there any bow clips around that anchor into the holes better? Perhaps with a longer tip?

Did you buy new bow tips? If not that might help. Sometimes the older ones get brittle and the tips can break off
