Impressive!

You have done a damn good job in just over 2 weeks. Wasn't really liking those fenders until I saw them with the tires...what a nice looking truck.

Thanks for sharing.

Just wondering haffi: do you have a full floater on this rig? I can't tell by the pics (and the big spacers that you have on the axles). I assume that it does.

Great rebuild. Very, very nice work indeed!

Thank you all for your nice comments

Yes I do have a full floater and E-lockers. This rig did not come with the lockers from the factory though. I retrofitted the 3-members to the axles earlier this winter.

Cant wait to get this thing ready and go out :steer:. My plan is to have everything ready next Wednesday because then I´m going on a one week ski and snowboarding trip to the north of Iceland.

Looks great! Why are you choosing a fiberglass hatch?

My upper hatch was too rusted to repair. A used one in better shape is hard to find here in Iceland. A new one from the dealer costs both my arms and one leg.

I found a fiberglasser who was willing to make the molds if I would find three or four buyers. Which I did.

The bad thing is that this guy is much better talking about making the hatches than making them

Beautiful color!!

Thank you for posting and sharing all of the process

Thanks again for all the nice comments guys

Today I spent most of my time working on running boards.

First I welded together a massive frame to hold the boards. Then cut the pre bent running board into the right size and shape. Then welded pieces of metal to close the ends. That pieces will also hold the front mud flaps. To make them less slippery when wet and covered in snow and ice I will add aluminium diamond plate on top.
I will finish these tomorrow and the plan is to get them to the powder coater on Monday.

I also installed the speaker boxes to the rear doors today. Whooo! These sound soooo much better than the earlier setup ;)

Did some work on the front bumper as well. Glued all the moldings on and bolted on the supports for my Hella driving lamps. I had all the chrome pieces and the Hellas powder coated to match my wheel. The running board will be coated in the same color. I also had the aluminum step on the rear bumper coated.

I have some clear lens turn signals on the way. These broken orange lenses just don´t look right.

I have a problem, I need some 5/16" bolts. I have a set of Prime wheels on the 80. All the center caps are missing and also the bolts to hold them in place. These bolts are coarse threaded 5/16" bolts. I´m going to make a new set of center caps but I can´t find the right bolts in stores here. I would prefer stainless steel bolts that look similar to these.

Does anyone know a source for me to order these online and have them shipped to Iceland.

Great color and fantastic work!

Keep it up and keep us posted!

Today I finished the running boards and prepped them for powder coating first thing tomorrow morning. I got the front mud flaps in place and the diamond plate aluminum on top. Drilled all bolt holes and then removed them from the truck again.

I made four new center caps for my wheels, these will also be powder coated.
I ordered the bolts I need from McMaster-Carr. Few days ago I ordered wheel stickers with Toyota logo to cover the hole in the middle of the center caps.

I also did some work inside the rear fenders and installed the plastic bumper on the drivers side. The paint on the passenger side has some fails that will be taken care off when the upper tailgate will be painted. Pics of them install will come later ;).

One of the biggest breakthrough today was when I finally got the fiberglass upper tailgate. I test fitted it on the rig and it seems to fit ;) I will take it to the painters tomorrow and I hope the can paint it in the next two or three days.

Time for a small update. Now everything is coming together nicely.

Today I got the running board and the wheel center hubs from powder coating. Had them and front mud flaps installed this evening. I have some Toyota logo stickers on the way in the mail for the wheel centers.

Also put the roof rack back on, finished the internal snorkel pipe through the firewall and added sound deadener to the lower rear tailgate.

The last thing I did this evening was waxing the truck and install the clear lens turn signal I picked up at the post office earlier today ;) this is the way it looks right now.

Tomorrow I will get the fiberglass hatch, the rear bumper corner and two small add ons to the front bumper to match the fender flares from the painter. Will install all that after work tomorrow and then on Friday I´m leaving on the first trip on my "new" twenty year old LandCruiser.

I think I just had an accident in my pants.

Amazing job Haffi! What an awesome thread.

I nominate him for build of the decade.....3 months into the decade :)
