Man I am jealous, such a great job you did there.

How did the fiberglass hatch work out? Happy with it?

How did the fiberglass hatch work out? Happy with it?

Yes, I am. I had some minor problems when installing the opening handle inside the hatch. In the original metal hatch it is a thight fit. The fiberglass is much thicker and there was not enough space for it. I had to cut a piece of the fiberglass out and use a strip of aluminum to hold it in place. But no problem at all. I´m sure the fiberglasser will take care of this before he makes the next one.

Now I have the aluminium painted in the same color and countersunk bolts to hold it in place. I will add some more pics of the gate and the interior when I finish it.

The outside of the hatch is not quite as perfect as a new metal hatch, when the sun reflects on it you notice that, and it is not quite as massive as a metal hatch (it bends out more easily when you pull the sides of it out with the gate locked) but it really looks good and is a good fit. Totally worth what I paid for it (1/5 of the price of a new hatch from the dealership). I got a good price since I my hatch was used to make the mold an got the first prototype.

I´m sure that no one will ever notice that this is not the stock hatch unless I tell them.

I definitely admire the craftsmanship going into haffi's 80. But those trails in Iceland look pretty compelling, too. A great rig and great places to wheel it. Can't beat that.

Very nice rig haffi. Nice work . . . and quick at that! That color is amazing!

Simply amazing

Quick question where did you get the clear turn signals under the headlights??? I need to get me a set! Really cool rig!

These are euro spec, but I got some off of ebay.

Ohh man, what an awesome truck.

I love what you did with the front bumper. Can you go into more detail what was done here?

What did the standard bumper look like?

Cheers

The bumper was just the stock bumper as seen pic.

What I did to it was:
1. Found lights I wanted to install.
2. Found a metal pipe that fitted around the lights.
3. Drilled a hole into the bumper.
4. Welded the pipe to the bumper.
5. Had the bumper painted.
6. Installed and wired the lights.
7. Had the chrome on top of the bumper powder coated and installed.

I found them on E-bay too, but Mot here on the board is probably selling them.

I think it is time for a little update.

Have been busy doing other stuff than working on my cruiser for a few weeks, still have done small things now and then.

Finally have the tailgate finished and aligned as good as it gets.

When removing the LandCruiser emblem off the gate I broke it. Then when scraping the old double side tape off I scraped through the black paint. I called the dealer and asked for the price off a new one. I almost dropped the phone when I heard the price.

Then I had a Idea. I finished scraping off the glue and then sanded off the black paint on the back side off the emblem.
Then I glued the two broken parts together with superglue.
Then primed the back side with plastic primer, painted it with the same grey color as the front grill and all the powder coated parts and clearcoat. Right now it is drying. Hopefully this turns out well and will be installed on the truck tomorrow.

I finished the internal snorkel.
IMG_3285.jpg

This is the way the intake looks on a normal day, the hood scoops should bring enough fresh air into the engine compartment.
IMG_3286.jpg

And now with the snorkel connected and ready to cross some rivers.
The pipe through the firewall and the pipe that connects to it are plastic sewer pipes, sealed with rubber seal.

I made a new "dashboard" for the timer switch for the Webasto and air spring control knobs and meter. I´m running full time air springs in the rear.

IMG_3281.jpg

I discovered that covering the subwoofer with carpet was not a good idea. The contact glue holding the carpet to the metal cover was not doing its job. The carpet came loose and made a terrible rattle. Proofs that my sub box is WORKING!

I did not like the yellow color of the regular H3 bulbs next to my HID head lamps so I ordered LED h3 bulbs from Ebay. The color is similar to the HIDs but the are not bright enough to use for extra lights. I´m thinking about using these lights as a daytime running lamps.

I also finished building me a 4 bike rack that to put in the rear hitch. But I have no pics of that yet.

This is all for now, I will post the result of the emblem repair tomorrow when the paint is dry.

Looks really nice!

I really like this .. can you elaborate .. ( more pics ? )

What do you want to know? I made this from aluminium plate, drilled the holes and then covered with black vinyl.

My experiment with the tailgate emblem went well. Looks a bit different from all the other 80´s out there. I like that.

Where can I get clear corner lights? I wasn't sure I would like it, but yours looks good.

thanks .. dude your craftmanship impress me ..

That scoop came off a Nissan Patrol.

The scoop has two jobs to do, to bring fresh air into the air intake and to look cool. It does both of that pretty good in my opinion.

I have never had any heat issues, so I don´t have any before and after temp measurements.
