This reminds me of a memory I hadn’t thought of in some time. I had recently moved to Chapel Hill, bought my first LX450, new married, and looking to find my people. About 7,8,9 years ago when it came up I was expecting another girl. I remember making the joke saying I was gonna need to join a gun club. I believe it was @JohnVee that replied not to worry, you’ve already joined a gun club. …And that’s when I knew I found my people.

I can’t add anything, but Glad no body was hurt @weejub

I don't think that's a pellet. Not at least similar to any I've seen.

I do think it was fired out of something using smokeless powder. rifling striations along the side and all. I don't remember what a .17 HMR looks like, but without looking at muzzle velocities, etc I would be it'd have the "a$$" behind it to penetrate as you described above and remain intact. I don't know if you can tell copper jacketing or not. This would be a clear indicator of commonly unjacketed rounds vs jacketed. The pics are taken with good faith, just excitedly and not quite in focus or high def. I'm not sure if my comments help, but I hope they figure out WTH happened and what yahoo needs educating.

The pics Rick posted look like what i used as a kid. We would occasionally get hollow points, or split points, but they were all cone shaped at the base.

There's definitely flat based hollow point .22 slugs available for 100yard + range

good point - that bronze color could just be from the barrel - they are like brake pads, stuff moving on both sides. pics were neighbors, they looked ok on the phone but when she sent them to me, they were trash :( hoping its just kids shooting in the woods and an accident, but its a weird one. thx for everyone for helping on this!!

I must admit, I am perplexed at what this could be, maybe possibly a 22 caliber bullet? I have never seen pellets that were not conical on the end personally but obviously they exist. It would help to know just how heavy the bullet was, but if I was a cop, I would probably call it a pellet just to save on having to file extensive paperwork

Does anybody in CLT have a set of new OEM brake pads for a 1993-1997 sitting on a shelf? I just realized that mine won't arrive until Tuesday instead of Monday and my USPS guy comes later than will be convenient for me. I'll deliver you mine Wednesday if I can grab yours Monday. @Roxx @S.CarolinaFZJ80 @Malleus @roadstr6

I do

Fellow cruiserheads please allow me a bit of a lament...

If I had a nickel for every 200 series I missed out on right when I was ready to make the owner an offer because they decided to keep it I'd have 3 nickels.

If I had a nickel for every 200 series I missed out on that was the wife's daily driver but enthusiast owned and well maintained right as I was going to make an offer I'd have 2 nickels...

I take it as further proof that a 200 series really is the way to go, but why must the cruiser gods forsaken me, perhaps I was not a good enough 80 series owner by selling it rather than fixing and am now being punished.

I know I'll be harassed about being a cheap a** for this but I really am curious.

Toyota P/N 04112-66036 is the 1FZ-FE HG gasket set, around $300

Toyota P/N 04111-66036 is the 1FZ-FE gasket set, also listed as 'Overhaul Gasket Set' Seen it listed around $450

I have discovered Japanese manufacturer Ishino Stone is a major supplier of Toyota Oem gaskets. I can buy an Ishino Stone whole engine gasket kit for $155.

I have done this with plenty of other parts, like buying denso O2 sensors or an Aisin clutch slave cylinder from rock auto or wherever. Oe supplier without the dealer markup.

What will I actually buy? That is to be determined. But I was kind of curious if anyone has ever experimented with stone gasket before.

You're not cheap, you're smart. I do the same thing, especially on the German cars. Save thousands and get the same quality parts.

Your topic regarding gasket kits reminded me of a potential leak point on your 80. Check the oil cooler for oil and coolant leaks. I've seen folks posting lately about the gasket failing in that cooler, allowing coolant into the oil. It's on the passenger side of the block, under the manifold. IIRC, that's close in proximity to where you saw the leak onto your trailer. If that's the problem, it should be a simple fix...well, simpler than a head gasket anyway. Worth checking out anyway. I used the Toyota HG kit 04111 which included the oil cooler gasket as well as some bottom end gaskets and seals. It sounds like you'll be going with the Ishino full kit, so you'll be covered either way.

Definitely need to check that out, I know the bellhousing is soaked but so is the whole back of the motor so while I don't doubt the rear main is leaking I do believe that a lot of my oil is coming from up high as well. Definitely have a lot of long overdue maintenance to do on this thing.

Unrelated PSA, don't trust coolant bottles. Even brand new ones. I bought one and stuck it in the seat of my truck not thinking and came back 3hr later to this. The seat covers are pretty water resistant but not enough for this. The underside of the seat was wet as I removed the seat cover

Might be worth asking someone like @OGBeno if Ishino was the OG supplier for the 1FZ headgasket or for other gaskets. If memory serves the 1FZ gasket has been through a through revisions so if it was the supplier for the older version the yota one may be better. Either way though it should be fine.
