Thats a good deal on filters, I need to buy me a couple. Meanwhile in Charlotte: Scott Clark Toyota Filters "those are $342.27 plus tax each, 2 week delivery", and Hendricks Toyota "Your truck doesn't have motor oil filters, the oil is used by the windshield washer to lower the pressure of the rearview mirror sensor".

I wish you were closer Fordo. I’ve got like 10 of those in the garage. I buy them every time I’m at the dealership and I see that deal.

I just bought the 5w-30 oil that was on sale, and I'll order a filter tonight.

About to do my first oil change on the cruiser and getting lost looking through all the threads haha. Should I just go 5w-30 and what filter should I get? Gotta be at Walmart
I ran the Rotella 15w-40 Diesel oil in my 80 with a Toyota Filter. I think It’s about $7 a filter at Lexus. Lexus happens to be closer to me so I stop by and pick a few up when needed.

Is there a reason you ran the 15w-40 over the recommended 5w-30? I've seen that a lot of people run that but my dad told me it's best to just use what the manufacturer says to use. Not sure if he's right or not

Theres a few different reasons. With out starting the great oil debate.... a few of my reasons were
  • Cost
  • Availability
  • Temp for this oil ranges from 14F to 100F. Perfect for NC
  • ZDDP
  • my "seat of the pants" meter said the engine was happier with the thicker oil.

I run the same in mine.

Costco Chevron delo 1540 in my 80s with Toyota filters. I ordered 10 from Ebay or amazon for 49.95 shipped, with drain plug orings. it's either 12 or 15 qts for 29.95 on sale.

I too suffered a wix filter failure in my 450. its had a mild case of piston slap for 4 years or so. oem only for me now

there are many discussions and this is just a cliff note response but, my general throught on the matter, 5w-30 is works great when new and cruising the on ramp and mall, keeping max efficiency with min oil drag. as you work it harder and the engine wears the oil clearances grow larger, having a little thicker oil with a high shear point might bring you mileage down a bit but, will provide more protection in the long run. and fill those wear spots a little better. +1 on the toyota filters...
