Had the v10 in my RV, over 45k miles of reliable service over the course of 20 years.
RV's don't do a lot of miles
Might wanna talk to Billy Gregory, he's got an excursion.
I have a friend with an E350, V10 ... 275K+ uneventful miles so far. It is his camping / paddling / and towing truck (he has a collection of nice older Jeeps) ....
About seven years ago during Christmas break I packed up my Jeep drove down to Pensacola and drove the coast to Apalachicola bay to pick up some oysters. I always looked forward to taking this drive to pick up fresh oysters again. A Favorite memory of mine was sitting in Mexico Beach haveing a Miller Light and oysters being handed off from the ship captain minutes after he came in from his latest catch. Sad to think the charm is gone and will be completely different when I return.I've been watching video and looking at stills of Mexico Beach this morning, unreal devastation. One thing that was very clear are the buildings that were built to the new codes instituted after Andrew. Two and three story buildings, roofs still intact with bare slabs all around them. It looks like maybe 1 in 5 buildings are still there and repairable. I can not imagine surviving if you stayed there in anything other than a modern structure.
Al, I recently (July 1) bought a 2001 Excursion with a v-10 with 111,000 miles for $7500.00.
Love it...my had-to haves were v-10, leather, and 4wd.
I absolutely love it, only draw back is 10.5 to 11 mpg.
I recently pulled my dump trailer with it loaded almost 10,000# and while I knew it was back there, It didn't have any issues over bridges, pulling out in traffic, etc.
Almost like driving the Caddilac until you hit a bump, then you know it's a truck.
Mine already had lift blocks in the rear, so I added a leaf in the front and I have a set of 33's for it as soon as the 31's wear out.
You wont regret it for towing.
Any ‘triton’ motor, the 5.4 V8s or the V10s are subject to the spark plug issue. As long as you torque the plugs properly however you are fine. And if they do blow all you have to do is a helicoilThanks for the first hand experience David. Yeah most of the ones I see are just over the 200k mark but all things I've read indicates no real problems other than the two I mentioned. Trans will give me issues before the motor.
My mother in law got an ‘18 RAV4. I kinda like it. I would hold out for the ‘19 model though. They look way better. The ‘08 GX would be awesome as well.Kinda for fun: Pick one as your daily driver, highest mileage car, and primary for non-offroad vacations - all are around $19K, but don't let the $$ amount scare you.
- 2018 Rav4, FWD (not AWD)
- 2008 GX 470 w/ 88K miles and new timing belt/water pump done, Excellent Condition
- 2010 GX 460 w/ 141K miles, Very Good Condition
