The first 150 Miles are down. I'm going to call the computer smart now and adjust the idle this afternoon.

  • I'm impressed
  • It's smooth
  • It's quiet
  • It's got good steady throttle
I'll keep posting my thoughts. Good or bad. I've got nothing to hide. I hope my thread will be helpful to those that are doing this swap in the future.

Nolan.... so what all do you have added to your truck...
Looks like the following...
- couple inch lift
- 33s (and MTs at that)
- ARB front bumper
- ARB roof rack with lots of tools
Any other accessories... Just wondering how much that might affect the TBI vs. a stock-ish truck. This is the over analytical part of me that likes to know the details for further understanding and known variables.

But just realized we need to give you a handicap... you're runnin taller gears than the fj55 guys...

I did an autopsy on my old motor because @FJ60Cam needs some parts for a 81 FJ40 with a burned valve.

#6 has had bad compression. Broken ring. I’m not sure how it was running with all the crap in the combustion chamber.

Drove 100 miles north to meet Cam and give him parts.

We did the idle procedure in the parking lot by checking codes and pulling the air sensor.

I was pretty dead on. We dropped it a hair and I peeled out

I’m so excited about how well this truck runs and drives. Absolutely superb. It’s like a new vehicle.

Add 10% to the speedo. That’s getting in down the road.

This is the only thing that I was not expecting. I actually lost 1mpg from my Smokey ass 5 cylinder

(Yes I added 10% to miles)

12.4? That seems fairly low. Gas mileage depends a lot on how the tune/chip is set up though. If you are happy with how it runs I think that's more important than fuel mileage. I have messed with tuning chips and trying different settings a fair amount. Hopefully your o2 sensor is in a location where it can get hot enough to give a accurate reading, I went to a heated o2 sensor to ensure that. It's really tough to tell how well a tbi setup is actually running, at least i think so. Eventually, I bought a wideband afr gauge kit as they have really come down in price. Watching the air fuel ratio live has been great for telling me how it's running. Typically a tuner will set a throttle percentage at which the EFI will go to open loop and run a richer mixture than the closed loop mix of 14.7:1 for more power. This is called power Enrichment mode. If during your trip you are in pe mode most of the time then mileage will suffer. If that throttle percentage for pe mode is set to 90% throttle position, you'll get great mileage (unless you are flooring it the whole way)but lose a bit of power. If it's set to 50%, then you will spend a lot of time in pe mode and have poor mileage but a little more power.

Awesome work!
Is the 10% based on just the speedo? I found that in my '62 with 33's the ODO is off 17% and the speedo is only off 5% based on GPS. If yours is not quite synchronized as mine is you could be north of 13 ;).

I have no idea of any of that stuff really except the O2 is on the header itself so it’s getting plenty hot.

I’ve got another well tuned new 2F with DUI and a trollhole carb in my 40 and I can tell you the power itself seems great out of my AFI 2F. No complaints.

I’ll be going on another trip soon but I may be pulling my trailer so that won’t be a fair way to judge.

I’ll check. It is splitting hairs though. It’s a pig.

That said on overland trips my 100 does just as badly.
