Background:
Owned cruiser since dec last year
Changed oil according to specs in FSM a month or two ago
Has several leaks which leak a little, but not much.

Oil light started coming on intermittently a few days ago. Usually on inclines. Fuel pressure is good, temp is good. I checked the stick the other day and noticed it was all the way up to the full mark. But the light kept coming on so I popped the cap off today to put some in and the level was all the way to the cap..?

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Also while I've got you... My local junkyard just got a land cruiser. I was wondering if its the exact same motor and I could rebuild the junkyard one and swap later. Mine is a 93 1FZ-FE, the junkyard car is a 96 I think.

The pic of the oil level is mine, the motor is also mine. I think I have the California edition? Had the weird box that comes off the air filter housing. Last pic is the sticker from the junk car.

THANK YOU!

So the cylinder head has holes that allow oil to drain back down to the pan...I'm guessing yours are probably sludged up and aren't draining the oil being fed to the cams so essentially it will read a couple quarts low on the bottom end.

I did do an oil analysis on the oil that was in it when I bought it. Nothing really alarming, I will have to find it later but basically they said everything looked ok just had a few things to keep an eye on.

Wow, that is even dirtier than mine. There is also a little ledge just under the oil cap that can sometimes make it appear that you're full of oil when you're not.

Can't tell for sure, but it looks like the ledge under the cap just has dirty oil Sitting on top of it.

OP, look straight down into the hole or put your finger in it to verify.

It's not full you goofball! Look at it better, with a flashlight if need be. You're going to go "DOOOOOOOOH"!!!!!!

Don't look in there! That's your 710 cap!

Yeah I am a total idiot. I thought it was full but its just that stupid ledge. Poured some more in there.... thanks guys. Sorry for my total  post.

So on to my other question... can I swap a motor from a 96 (I think it might be a 97... was made in April 96) cruiser into my 93?

Just based on the oil question and it's answer, I would have to say no. :D

haha I won't be doing the swapping! I did however successfully manage to do the knuckle rebuild.... (knocks on wood). It's been a rough week guys.... :P

Yes, but the other way doesn't work. The 95+ OBDII engine will have an extra crank angle sensor that won't be used by the 93 but it can just sit there unused.

You'll need to use the 93-94 intake manifold and VSV array, harness, and a few other things, PAIR system if you decide to keep it, etc.. but the block/head/accessories will all interchange.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

But for real, no. You can't. At least not simply. Your 93 is OBDI. 95+ are OBDII.

That's pretty funny and since we're talking oil follies I will chime in. About 15 years ago I changed the oil on the Cruiser in a hurry. Those 5 quart Mobil 1 jugs were new. I poured one in, walked in the house to check on something for 60 seconds and came back out to frickin Exxon Valdez happening in the garage. Had not put the oil plug in. It was unbelievable! I used up 25lbs of cat litter in 30 seconds trying to stop the inexorable progress of that oil across the garage floor and lost. It went under the tool bench, under all the shelving units, I backed the other cars out of the garage, was dragging thing out into the driveway, throwing down towels, newspapers, sacrificing car wash towels, I even grabbed the actual litter box - turds and all and unceremoniously dumped it where the gaps were. Unbelievable mess.
