Sorry - Help me here -
I read thru all these pages, and I called the company & spoke with "John", and he did bring up a point -

I have not seen anyone here who has actually been scammed/harmed by any of this. I may have missed it, but is there anyone?

I would not be on the front line to buy one until I saw one in person, but does anyone know of who has been scammed with this?

This is awfully involved and detailed if it is a scam. Pretty clear who is involved and where, would be pretty stupid of them to not follow thru?

He has a website and a gofundme account. What's so involved and detailed about that?

I didn't see the GoFundMe - that's kind of cheesy- I saw a listing that has been on AngelInvestmentNetwork, Checked the Dun & Bradstreet Number, Checked the SEMA Membership, Checked the Comodo SSL Verification. Just seemed a little involved.

Again, though, do you know anyone that has been scammed?

Welcome to MUD @Brilliance You will find this to be a passionate, opinionated, knowledgable and mostly unregulated environment that serves many needs for its members - technical, social and commercial. Active participants tend to be sensitive to the "truthiness" of pitches here and downright defensive when it appears that an offer or promotion is in conflict with the combined experience and knowledge of the swarm. This simple "For Sale" thread has 17 pages of technical, social and commercial commentary as a reflection of that group consensus about the offering.

A scam does not require victims to be a scam - it is about intent (IMHO) and a "good" scam requires a compelling pitch supported by content and infrastructure. Basically, the promoter is soliciting deposits, investors and Go Fund Me contributors without verifiable documentation of WHO, WHAT, HOW, WHEN, WHERE they are doing.

Bridge sellers, cancer cures, political demagogues (right and left), cult leaders, faith healers, etc. all rely on human nature and a desire to believe - not rational, fact-based analysis of available information. The validation points you mentioned are really not that involved or expensive. As mentioned previously, some real-world photo documentation and personal/business references would have side-tracked this discussion weeks ago.

Wow.

Longest running thread in this forum's history.

Most replies to any thread in this forum's history.

Scam? Maybe - Does anyone know for sure? Please advise if you do.

But this was the best free marketing I have ever seen done, and everyone fell right into line for it.

I'm just saying....

It seems very funny and coincidental to me that you are the second new member with no other posts on Mud to come and try to defend the L79 scam.

When I first was introduced to Mud I spent hours going tru tons of tread before I introduced myself to this community and posted a picture of my Cruiser, not a hair on my head that would think of getting involved in a tread like this one where clearly the L79 company had enough chances to defend themselves but rather started a kindergarten worthy name calling contest.

As a bystander reading and watching this tread it seems that there is one party here that has their selves registered on this forum under multiple aliases, unfortunatly you can't change the joining date and post on your profile to make yourself more believable.

Just my 2 cents and I could be wrong........could be ;)

Defending? I would not get involved in this if my life depended on it. But that is just for my own reasons.

I just thought it was interesting that there is a huge "pile-on-the-project", and nobody seems to know anything to back anything up. Personally I think it would be awesome if true, but everyone has simply s*** all over it before anything, positive or negative, has happened.

@wardharris ...... I was clearly in your corner until you picked on the "faith healers". We all know they're real. :)

You are correct that no one has claimed to be scammed on this, YET!
The truth is your friend has lied several times from the beginning of this thread.

No Brilliance on EXPO - something does not smell right

MR. PAPP IS THAT YOU!??? ;)

writing style, diction, tone...ironically similar to Papp's post. I could be wrong though...

To review:
  1. Apparently, the original promoter (convicted scam artist) has been replaced by John L. Papp of Colorado Springs, CEO of L79-America.com
  2. The offering company is now Papp Brothers Automotive / L79-America.com
  3. Their website has some fresh content (want a job?, want to reserve one?, want to call John?)
  4. The Go Fund Me site has been taken down with $20 raised
  5. The Angel Investment Network pitch/proposal is still live with $20,000 of $250,000 raised
  6. Another John L. Papp of Colorado Springs, CO appears to have Linked In ID (IBM recruiter and former CIA analyst) and Facebook identities (married Christian 4 wheeler guy) - no guarantee that the promoter is connected to either of these John Papps
  7. Maybe it is the same guy, maybe this is not a scam
  8. If not a scam and they can deliver, that would be really cool - if it is real, then good luck to the firm and its customers.....seriously

But so far we have not seen any pictures yet....... from any of the new posters ;)
I wonder if anyone has checked behind the gas station on the outskirts of Tupelo? :)

Brilliance, yes could you maybe tell us a bit about yourself, your history, your vehicles, really anything. We think you are just the same guy acting like you are somebody else. Why didn't you just reply on the discussion on expo? You coming on here on Saturday, seems a bit funny. Hard to believe and the writing style is similar like BostonFJ60 said. At least have your friend who writes different than you write it. Its like bringing a note to school when you were a kid in your handwriting and you forging a parents signature. At least use a different pen, or have a buddy write it, anything. Maybe you should watch catch me if you can, good show, hes smart, folds the note from parents, little things like that. I dont know, just a thought.
