Not mine, but supposed 2016 Land Cruiser Double Cab Pickup for sale...

New to the board here. I've been in touch with L79. John Papp informed me Michael Papp is not affiliated with the L79 effort...which after reading this thread, is confusing and perplexing to me.

Very interesting history on the L79 effort to say the least!

I still love the idea that one photo could shut this whole conspiracy down.... a photo that mike took of a curious buyer, standing in his driveway, dipping a donut in a cup of coffee while looking at an HZJ79. :p
What fun would that be, Ian?
You are correct, of course!

I asked John Papp about this thread, and the ebay listing. He stated it was an ill advised market "test" that will not be repeated.

Again, this whole thing is truly fascinating...

I guess people are actually reading this thread due to the lack of activity on that gofundme page. I honestly wanted to believe that it was possible for someone to bring these over legally.

if they were, there are a lot many more people who don't need a GoFundMe site who would have had whole fleets of them by now - other than as static displays in UT.

FIFY @beno ;-)

It appears that LHD diesel V8s are in production as below. Maybe the L79 promotor/importer can adapt the Black Box to make the big boy model pass our regs as well.....right

Looks like they might have the 1VD in the 200 series in KSA as well. But if I'm reading it right, and I'm probably not, I don't think its the twin turbo model. Maybe someone out there knows for sure. In any event, one would suspect it would be MUCH easier getting the 1VD to pass US emissions than the 1HZ pending computer complications since it already meets EURO 5 emissions (whatever that is).

I think you are correct but I do not know for sure. Agree that a modern/Euro spec motor would be easier for the Black Box to Federalize. :)

Like many here, I want to believe and could probably sell a kidney to fund a purchase.....but.........I do business with people I trust, respect, etc.

So far the public-facing message (EBay, Facebook, Angel Site, Go Fund Me, Press Releases, Mud post, doughnut parties etc.) from the promoter is less than reassuring. As suggested above, if it could be done, it likely would have been done......by someone the community can trust, respect, etc. Onur Azeri, Georg Esterer, Greg Miller, Dan Busey, Christo Slee, Kurt Williams, Steve Jackson, Jonathan Ward, Marv Spector (RIP), etc. you get the idea.

This community has its share of broken dreams, broken promises and poorly crafted rigs tied to unmet expectations - but is amazingly wise in the aggregate and the "stink rate" is pretty low for such a diverse range of imported and generally ancient vehicles, hard to find parts and owners.

The swarm knows.

So, just so we are all clear, not only does nobody here know how to import newer vehicles, nobody knows how to run a business either? (I'll exclude Steve- I believe he knows what he is doing with vehicles 25+ years old and I love the business model he has)

Here, I'll help- it's all a lie, all a scam. Y'all figured everything out with your combined brainpower. Now drop it before you hurt yourselves.

To those who have some semblance of intelligence, keep in touch, www.l79-America.com. Oh, and have money too.

So, just so we are clear, neither do you...

Arrest records for 14 electric vehicles sold to 2 companies and never delivered, then claiming bankruptcy.

Zero actual photos of the supposed 3 cruisers you imported.

John from l79-America says this whole thing was an ill-advised market research ploy that will not be repeated, oh and you aren't affiliated with the company either (not that he is on the up and up either, honestly)

Fixed it for ya:

"not only do I not know how to import newer vehicles, I do not know how to run a business either"

I just realized that the promoter of this deal has apparently threatened any/all posters hereto. Guess we better arm ourselves with pitchforks and torches..... :)

Scam? Maybe - Does anyone know for sure? Please advise if you do.

But this was the best free marketing I have ever seen done, and everyone fell right into line for it.

I'm just saying....

The "any publicity is good publicity" logic you came to does not apply here in my opinion. That only works in the celebrity / teen pop star world. Not good marketing getting called out as a scammer for 16 pages in a row.

Somebody would have to be short quite a few brain cells to not understand this is a scam by now.

Sorry - Help me here -
I read thru all these pages, and I called the company & spoke with "John", and he did bring up a point -

I have not seen anyone here who has actually been scammed/harmed by any of this. I may have missed it, but is there anyone?

I would not be on the front line to buy one until I saw one in person, but does anyone know of who has been scammed with this?

This is awfully involved and detailed if it is a scam. Pretty clear who is involved and where, would be pretty stupid of them to not follow thru?
