Damn that's a good lookin frame.....how many pounds of sand did you use on the frame?

Thanks Chuck! To my surprise it only took about 3 bags of 50lb play ground sand although I bought 10:rolleyes:

Wow. What pressure are you blasting at? My harbor freight unit takes quite some time and sand to do a frame. I regulate the pressure going in to about 80psi in the pressure pot.

we actually ended up linking two 7hp 35 gallon compressors together so we had a pretty decent flow rate I guess:meh:

Non-Cruiser related fun

Got the call from my wife about 4:45 on friday afternoon in a panic for me to rush home as one of our biggest fears had come true.
DSC_0783.jpg

I guess I should give a little background.... 2 years ago when I graduated from Clemson my wife and I moved back to my home town of North Augusta for work and fell in love with and bought a 1930's Craft-mans style bungalow. Loved the house with it's charm and detail you don't usually see in homes today. Anyways it was an old home and thus came with issues and concerns, one of the biggest that stuck out to us as a potential problem down the road was the fact that the water heater resided in the attic. We had the best intentions of replacing it with a tankless system either underneath the home or outside, but as life goes we got consumed in other priorities and never relocated it.

Well this past Friday sometime shortly after I left home for work a line to the water heater ruptured and subsequently proceeded to flood our home until my wife arrived home from work to find water pouring from the ceilings in our bedroom, dinning room, and bathroom. So to say the least it was a bad way to start the weekend.... the pictures I am going to attach don't look to bad but the damage it pretty substantial as the ceilings, walls, and the beautiful heart pine floors will all have to be replaced. Looks like 1-2 months before we will be able to get back into our home according to the contractors.:crybaby:

Hopefully the LV project won't suffer to much as a result of this:doh:

Okay time for some pics of my misery... they may not look that awful but it is amazing the damage water can do in a short time. As of today our beautiful heart pine floors had already started to buckle and cup:bang:

Does it make me a Land Cruiser-aholic that my first concerns after my wife's distress call Friday afternoon were of my rare factory Land Cruiser Literature that I keep in my bedroom???

Luckily I generally keep all my early cruiser Lit. in a sealed rubbermade box. Unfortunately I did have my '65 toyota parts book and '61 factory repair manual out on the shelves in my bedroom and they did incur some water damage which made me sick to my stomach. Thankfully my wife seeing my distress stepped in and did her best to preserve the Literature......

our best method at the time of keeping the wet pages from sticking together and being ruined was paper towels in between each page...... which in the end worked out quite well

Wow, sorry to hear about your house! Just remember, everything can always be worse. You've got a great wife! Keep on keepin on with the LV...

Sorry to hear about your house JP. Best of luck getting all that taken care of.

Got back yesterday what a Great Road Trip :steer: and after reading about your house I figured I had better dig out some doors and get your handle ready for shipping to cheer you up some. let me know if theres anything else you need off them. By the way the 45 ran great just over 1400 miles one way to Texas fried a set of points in New Mexico but other than that the truck ran Fantastic

JP, I knew you and your Dad picked up an LV but never thought to look for the build. looks like yall are doing a great job.....I am so sorry to hear about your house, that sucks! Let me know if I can do anything, I would love to come help on the LV as well.

Thanks for all the support guys!! Was totally bummed over the house for a while and meeting with the different contractors for the repair work took most of my free time last week..... so I didn't get to even look at the LV :frown: but life is getting back to some what of normal now.

Looks like I will be out of my home for around 3 months.... will be getting all new hardwood floors, sheet rock ceiling in place of the plaster originals and also we will be having new modern windows installed along with going to spray foam insulation in the attic to instead of your traditional batt. type. The windows and spray foam are going to be a hopefully worth while attempt to cut our heating and cooling costs in this 1930's bungalow becuase of right now we spend more time heating and cooling the atmosphere than we do our house

Most importantly we will be replacing the water heater in the attic (which was the source of the problem) with a tankless gas instant hot water heater under the house with all the plumbing removed from the attic so this will never happen again.

As for the LV; the rebuild kits with all new bearings and seals should be arriving today along with all new brake components too. So we should have brand new axles to show off by the end of the week

Looking forward to getting back to work on the LV

No Problem Brother, when I get everything apart and in a pile we can start taking prices, I do have something in mind but before I get into to much detail Didnt you say you went to Clemson ? I remember at the build I over heard you talking about it. from what I understand your still very big into supporting the school and there sport programs arnt you ? :hmm:

Misery loves company

I feel your pain. Been dealing with snow/ice slide off my upper roof that did some serious damage to a lower roof today....the day before a buyer was coming back for a second look.

Good luck with your water man.

Dukes

My blood runs Clemson orange.... my grandfather went there, as did my dad, sister, wife and some day my kids will as well :grinpimp:

I am interested to hear what you have in mind:cheers:

little progress

Finally got a little time in on the LV the other day after what felt like weeks away from the ole girl.

Took the rear axle apart, sand blasted it, and the shot it with some paint.... came out looking pretty good. The little spots all over are pollen, it is that time of year here everything has been coated green for weeks

Scavaneged some parts off one of my '62 40's that were missing on the LV.... frame horns, front bumper and braces. Also got out of storage the PTO winch I have been saving for years

The best part Monday was it felt like Christmas in March as packages arrived, from SOR, CCOT, and Eastwood got most everything we need to rebuild the axles and drivetrain
DSC_0820.jpg

Thats all for now; I hope to start reassembly of the rear axle tomorrow!
