I'm getting a lot of messages with questions about my design. This CAD screenshot is the shape of the first run of doors that I will be selling in tan or black microtexture powdercoat. It will have rounded corners, a .125" radius milled on the outside edge, gas lift strut and the "notch" in the lid to protect the latch mechanism.

Bad ass

I'm very interested .... looking for a ball park price? what about a 1/4 inch super duty ... diamon plate on the inside may keep things from sliding and add stiffness? any how interested.....

I'm shooting for under $600 shipped for the first run. I need to see how long it takes to put each one together.

I'm not opposed to improving the design and/or offering a HD version. Seems like overkill but if it needs to tougher for some people, I will accommodate that.

Lift struts are in and the mounting tabs are getting lasercut from the same 3/16" plate.

Here is the $55 version

Rear Tailgate Storage Solution - The $55 version

One large door makes no sense unless you are just using for storage that you rarely need to get to.
No Phil! AlohaJen did this first as a recent thread gave her credit for lol! Even though your thread is about 2 years old and wasn't new then. I personally feel that your listed option is better No offense to notch or reevsci, it's just more sensible in my mind.

She can have all the credit just keep posting quality pictures:grinpimp:

At any level its nice to see the tailgate space being utilized.

Hey, I never credited myself for the idea. My Tailgate Storage Project is not even a year old, and I clearly stated "After seeing some great ideas for utilizing the storage potential in the tailgate, I decided to try and make use of that space on my 80." All I can take credit for is being the first Mud member to utilize it for bikini storage (well, first to admit it)!

No, you never did. But someone else recently did this mod, their post made it sound like this was some new concept that hadn't been covered and you were the inspiration for them to do the same mod was what I was getting at. And I know I saw a speedo tucked away in one of @LandCruiserPhil s pictures lol.

Discount for Australia ???????????????????????????????

Curious - is your tan powdercoat matched (roughly) to the dark tan tailgate carpet, or a different shade? Trying to decide black vs. tan...

Thanks!

I'm not exactly why Australia as a country would get a discount :p but if you buy a few of them you could save on shipping.

Thanks!

It's pretty much like the Desert Tan US military color or the medium dark earth you see gun stuff made in (like my rifle stock). It blends in with the interior pretty well. Also, the M6 stainless steel mounting hardware will be black coated on both colors for a smoother look.

Looks very similar to mine. Either way, great work.

Likewise! Your's looks great and was part of my inspiration for this version. I think the struts are a very nice feature.

Indeed. There is so much room for tiny, little bikinis in there, why waste it?!
