Sick of being in the engine bay or under the truck so I’ve decided to spend a few days on the exterior. I removed the glue from a PO bad tint job.

The undercoating has worn off quite a bit over the years so today I tended to the wheel wells.

This weekend I plan to try out this 3M windshield chip repair and touch up using Dr ColorChip (which I’ve used before on other vehicles).

Can someone ID this plug behind the glovebox? I’ve done a search with no luck and also having trouble matching the FSM to my wiring.

I’ve spent some time on minor details, and fun stuff - so here are some updates!

Used the 3M windshield chip repair kit with mixed results. The instructions don’t say to shake the resin bottle before applying so it didn’t want to dry in its first application. Once I figured out you have to shake it up well, much better.

As you will see below, it did fill but with some bubbles and definitely not a professional job. Overall I like the kit and feel I could do much better given another shot at it. Hopefully it prevents further cracking.

Next up was a dash restore including dash pad, new stereo, LED dash light replacement, new oil pressure guage and even guage needle paint

And finally - silicon adhesive and masking tape to attach the new dash pad:

The final result, clear, clean and like new. Makes a huge difference while in the cockpit!

Thanks! It is Dashtop - it actually came from the PO but was never installed. The fit was pretty good but I don’t really have anything to compare.

On another subject - without oil in the vehicle, it’s clear there is another source for an oil type leak. It looks like it’s coming from where the front drive shaft connects to the transfer case. Any thoughts there?

Smell like gear oil? may need to take off the drive shaft and replace the seal. Also put some rtv or fipg on the splines to keep gear oil from slipping by.

Thank you. It sounds like something I might need to be doing soon. I haven’t put many miles on it since getting everything cleaned up. Hoping to drive it a bit more to see what’s really what under there.

Any advice on a new drive shaft? I see some guys install new. Unnecessary?

Why do you think you need a new drive shaft? grinding, vibrations etc coming from the t'case? May be time for a rebuild. Or at least drain and refill with some good quality gear oil.

Somewhere along the line the truck inherited some door and wheel well bumpers. It’s actually growing on me. One wheel well and all of the doors need replacing. So I tended to that a little today. It’s raining, and I’m allergic...

I also haven’t looked under the vintage front seat covers since i bought the rig - pretty good shape! I’ve been debating some sheepskin covers. They’re just so expensive.

Also fabricated some replacement mud guards for the inside of the front wheel wells.

Spent some time refreshing the wheels today. New black lugs and Toyota black center caps. As always, the rig decides to teach me something new; how to replace a sheared wheel stud.

Located a small leak from one of the wheel bolts on the left front. Is this an easy fix? I intend to do a full knuckle rebuild but just don’t have the time for it right now. Any ideas out there?
