Looking good Alex. Working my way through the Weber conversion. Should have some ideas for you when you get to that point. Installed new clutch master, PCV rerouted, fuel lines attached, DUI dist in, air rail holes plugged, new water temp sending unit in. If I remember I'll send some pics tomorrow.

Side note, you can do the same thing to remove the pilot bearing using wet copy paper and that way you don't have to give up your lunch. :) Just soak some copier or printer paper for a few minutes, tear off a chunk, pound it in, tear off another and so on. Took me only a few minutes to get mine out and it wasn't messy at all.

How complete is that JT PS kit? Hows the quality seem to you? Ive been looking at this kit for a while and just wanted to know your thoughts on it as well as anything else you will need to buy to finish it.

Thanks

Other than Grade 8 hardware and an external power steering cooler, very complete.

I probably could have sourced individual pieces for less but it was convenient.

Awesome, thanks. Also keep it going....I need something to watch while my cruiser is so far away

LOL. I told you they weren't cracked! They were just CAKED (not cracked) with undercoating and mud.

Just did the same job yesterday. I bolted the tank and the steel hoses shown to the tub before putting it on. If I ever do it again (which I hope I don't) I would connect all the hoses. It wasn't all that difficult to hook them up but it wouldve been a whole lot easier off the frame and there's nothing preventing you from doing it first.

Nice build by the way.

Jeff

Looking great !

I didn't fit the tank to the tub prior to mounting the tub on the frame and then the tank install turned into a real PITA ! The hoses I did afterwards but then mine is a BJ

Awesome! sent you an email, let me know what you want for them...

Also, I recently bought a CCOT HFS bumper. The bumper came wrapped in some insulation with foil backing like they sell to go under floor mats (see attached pic).

Will this stuff work to replace my discarded wool pads?

I bought the item in the picture, it works well, I also got the HFS bumper and used the padding for other insulation so to answer your question, YES it will work.

Did you ever get your title cleared?
Cool build, you have come a long long way from the truck that you originally bought. You have done a great job, keep up the good work.

Gary,

Thanks! Its definitely been a long road. No the title has never been sorted out. Im waiting till I have truck put together enough to be able to take it to Sheriff's office for out-of-state inspection. They wont even inspect it until it is in "operational."

Back to my transfer case. The boot on the front flange of transfer case is shot. Been trying to find a part number, but cant find one past 1980.07

OEM Toyota BOOT, TRANSFER FR DR

My truck is an 1981.01. Will this work?

Is it necessary for me to change the boot?

How difficult is it to change the boot?

Anyone, have any experience at this?

Alex

Hmm. I dont get it according to www.utoyot8.com my 81 FJ40 has a Dust Deflector vs a Boot. Late Model FJ60's show the same Dust Deflector shown below (Part # 36104B / Toyota Part # 36325-60010)

Per my previous picture, I definitely have a boot not a metal deflector. The only thing I can figure as being a Jan 81 I was between changes or something. Anybody have any other clue...?

The part you listed is for the output shaft not the shifter. It doesn't look like they show it in the diagram. Do you have one that shows the gear as such? Maybe on that one.

Your build looks great, keep up the good work.

Brief Hijack

Sorry for the hijack. I've been desperate to find another site like that since toyotapartszone pulled their diagrams. I went to www.utoyot8.com and couldn't find how to get to vehicles older than 1990. Can you let me know how you got that detail on older vehicles?

When you go to www.toyotapartszone.com and lookup parts by your make, model and year it provides a link which you click on opening a separate page thru www.utoyot8.com with parts diagrams. Hard to explain without looking over your shoulder...
