I opted to have the front fenders and rear wheel wells coated in liner also. I figure you can’t have enough protection on these old rust buckets. Note I purchased the front speaker pods (SOR is where I believe I got them) and had them coated too. I’ll give a more thorough report on how well that holds up and if it was a good idea at a future date.

And there was a discussion earlier about whether or not to use black neoprene rubber hinge gaskets and I did. See above for the results. Some angles you may be able to see a bit of gasket but it looks great overall to me and I’m getting the protection I wanted. The hood hinge gaskets are black so why not continue with the same theme??

So the PO said the only thing he couldn’t get to work was the back up light. While I have everything tore apart I’d like to replace the backup switch with a new one as I have no idea what else it could be. PO said my motor is a 2F with 4 spd from an FJ60. 2F is stamped on the block and it is indeed a 4 spd. Which port is my back up switch? Tranny is stamped 7x7 on top. It seems I have a hole for both the FJ40 switch and the FJ60 switch. Apparently while the chaos of the tear down happened I lost the screws that snug the switches to the dash. Where can I get two of those if I can get them? See pictures...

And here is an updated pic so far. Clutch is back in. Brakes hooked up but need to be bled. Dash components started installing. And steering column remounted. Oh, roll bar repainted shoddily and set it but not bolted yet.

The reverse light/backup light switch is rearward w/ yellow wire and rubber boot. The switch on top is a 4th gear switch(I think:hillbilly:).

You should be able to test the reverse switch. As for the PO’s previous issue, I’d bet the reverse light wasn’t grounded, thus not working. With all that nice fresh you’re gonna need to make sure you’ve got good grounds.

I don’t think that’s a FJ60 tranny, I think it’s an H42. @Living in the Past or @65swb45 would know

Edit: remember to pull all those dirty switches apart and clean the innards before installation. AMHIK

You should be able to test the reverse switch. As for the PO’s previous issue, I’d bet the barn door reverse light wasn’t grounded, thus not working. I ran a seperate ground wire on mine instead of relying on a path through the door hinges. With all that nice fresh you’re gonna need to make sure you’ve got good grounds.

The switch on top is for emissions. It shows when the transmission is in fourth gear. One of spares has it. Believe it's from a 78. Search and should find a tread or two about it. 60 series covers the shifter is further back and made of aluminum.

So the question is to paint or not to paint. Part of me wants to keep the patina and history, the other wants to repaint the door pieces to look like new. Thoughts? If you notice the small baggie next to the windows and think hey, that looks like 50 bucks! Well, you’d be right. The SS hardware is eating me out of house and home! Last box I got was the size of a cassette tape partially full for a cheap price of 150 bucks. SOR you’re welcome. Also have the original Toyota emblems and rust is starting to appear. How do I stop that without damaging the paint/chrome? And last pics are update on the project. Most dash stuff is in. Discovered you can’t put the dash pad on with the roll bar in after I bolted it in... All the many new parts bolting on is making it go fairly quickly. I usually only have to do each item 2-3 times before it’s close to right!

Also decided to flip over my gas tank because why not? I wanted to repaint it anyways...hit the mother lode of surface rust! This vehicle really is a diamond in the rust. So now it’s a work in progress. Where do I put the rubber gasket/spacers exactly inder the tank? My suspicions are about where my 3 big rust streaks are.

It would seem I have discovered the source of my e brake not working....anyone see anything missing? Anyone got an e brake cable bracket they’d like to part with? If not, I’ll order a cable. Problem is it’s a 73 fj with a late 70’s 4 speed. Which cable would I order?

I also had to relocate the charcoal gas canister as the double battery box needed a touch more room. I mounted it sideways and put a slab of rubber under it. The hoses below I have never seen hooked up. One has had a bolt in it since I’ve owned it. What’s that stuff do? Do I need to hook it up? If it’s smog related, I don’t need to worry about that here in WA.

I really like that roll cage. Did you make it?

I like the build, but the steering wheel is butt-ugly
