Good buy Dave.

I am interested to see what you are going to do for brake/clutch lines.

My plan is to get the tub sandblasted

Where are you gonna have it blasted at? I need to get mine blasted too...

Probably just reuse the existing ones, but I did buy a flaring kit and a brake line bender.

I'd like to help when you do your brake lines since I need to either buy or make some...

Either with Enigma Coatings out near Jason's house or with Larry Aiken. When are you looking to do it? I'm hoping to drop off the tub this week.

Luis, just need to buy the 10mm brake line and then copy the old ones. I think you can just rruse the fittings.

David,

Just seen this. Sorry to see your 55 go, but glad to see you're still in the game with the 40. Great color choice. :) So, this one is staying stock?

With help from several buddies today, we got the tub onto the trailer ready for sandblasting and also moved the engine closer to the frame.

Man, you are moving quick! Might be a couple of weeks since i still have a few things to take off from the tub.

Dropped off the tub and other sheet metal bits at the sandblaster (thanks @meatloaf). He's going to blast and epoxy coat all of the parts. I'm pumped now. Stan mentioned Sully and Chris (@Sully73FJ40 and @crotalusatrox) had their bodies blasted there as well. Good to know that he is already familiar with FJ40 bodies.

I also cleaned up the stock springs (I'll eventually install some lift springs). They came out nice!

I wonder what the 55 is thinking, in that last picture.

Ron,

Hamp is probably wondering why no one loves him.... Jason traded me to Dave and now Dave doesn't want me either.... :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby: SO SAD! Sounds like Hamp will be taken care of though. Good luck with the build Dave. I'll be in contact soon on the DIY kits.

Who's lift is the "in" lift these days? I have what I think is a skyjacker lift that came with my FJ40, and it seems very tall, maybe 4 inch. Your off to a great start.

Maybe you should power coat the tub like the icons?

Mark,

I'm not sure on the lift preference myself... I just installed a 4" Rough Country (SUA). Without the body weight and on short shackles I'm thinking it is yielding close to a 5-6" lift right now. I know this will settle a little, but curious to see how much.

Overall I was not impressed with the kit.. Missing nuts and sub-par paint on springs.. kit only came with large eye bushings (kit was for a 64-80 year range), glad I had already changed all mine from the small to the large eye hangers or it would have been a real inconvenience for anyone, including a weekend project that if not known or caught in advance would put a guy behind a few extra days waiting for shipping...

Price was 545.00 plus 52.80 shipping. For 600$ (yes, i was being a cheap ass and trying to lower build costs) I guess I got what I paid for..... Last time I ever buy a RC kit for sure.

Just my .02.... But if I were to do this again... AND I WILL OF COURSE... I'll just call Kurt (@cruiseroutfit )and get an OME, LIKE I SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Live and learn!!

I was thinking OME, on all the FJ40's I've ever owned, they all came with a aftermarket lift. So I've never purchased one. 2.5 is what Iam thinking with 33 inch tires. This lift seems tall.

I just went out and measured mine... I'm sitting a 26-3/8" to the bottom of the frame on a SUA... VERY TALL!!

Sitting on 33s my new ome 2 1/2" I'm at 21" at the same point as your measuring tape. I only have the engine in the frame. If you didn't want to spring for the new lift, it looks like your shackles are pretty long compared to stock or even the ome.

I had to go measure mine again after J posted up his measurements on new 2.5" OME and new 33s.... I too just have the motor/trans in... With a true 36" SS tire and the "4 inch lift", YUP.. 26-3/8" DAMN!
