Great, I always try and look through the FSM/google it/search mud before I through out a question if possible. Sometimes I’m in a hurry or just being lazy and post up. And sometimes I do all 3 search methods and still get blanked then I post up on mud.

Can someone help with ID of protrusions under passenger side of frame?

I believe the arrow in the left is pointing to the hole where one would put one end of a steering stabilizer.

What is the circle on the right the arrow is pointing to? Maybe a recovery point?View attachment 2932294
Not there on my 74, it’s had a washer/bolt head living in it from the mark, only a small spot welded tab so doubt a tow point....but I don’t know.

Thrust washer installed…won’t ever not install one of those again… thanks @cruiseroutfit

Ordered a new Joint Fuji center arm. Confirmed that the original was not bent and the curve is in fact original. I was concerned based on some of the other steering components that it was bent. Guess I have an extra now.

All steering linkage from knuckles to center arm replaced. Center arm rebuilt (thought I took a picture cause it was PURDY!) and reattached to frame with new yota hardware and red locktight holding the bolts/nuts on where I broke off the capture nuts inside the front frame rail using an air wrench….won’t make that mistake again! Drag link up through intermediate shaft hopefully happening this week. Braided SOR brake lines all hooked up. Threw on the OME steering damper I had from one of the parts trucks just to make sure that where it went. It fit…

Zero issues @RUSH55 it was a cheapish part and I have 2 other piggies that might benefit from it. Plus it’s kinda an oddball question.

@cruiseroutfit do I need to grease up the TRE’s or do they come pre greased? Didn’t see any goo oozing out as I was snuggling down. If I do need to grease how do I know when I have enough in there? Can I over grease and do damage?

Crap don’t worry about it @Lifelong40Fan. I woulda poked the bear if I wasn’t willing to spring for a new one or if they were no longer available. Like I said I got a nice spare now. The cruiser therapy has been strong lately! Love wrenching on these beauties.

Driving me nuts not knowing what the circle thing is under the front frame rail! Google has not been my friend tonight trying to find an answer… @scrapdaddy I’m not following on your center steering comment/guess. Can you expand/clarify?

IIRC you should add a little grease, it will come out the weep hole or deform the boot when full. Thought mine came with a bolt instead of the zirk fitting, may be thinking of the 40 ends however. Go easy on the first in case they are pre-greased -

The pic of the one on the right appears factory.. sometimes on site gives a different perspective. does it look factory installed to you? I don't think tow hook is it... thinking these things came w/other hooks for recovery...especially w evidence of a previous washer applied to it.. . but..?? could it have been an aftermarket addition for a dual steering stabilizer application .... now that's blindfolded spitballing... grins

@MacDaddyRabbit ill get some better pictures in the next couple days. It definitely looked factory installed when I was trying to figure it out a couple days ago but that might just have been the uniform frame “patina” that was giving me that impression. The dual steering stabilizers is an interesting thought. 🧐 I’ll have to keep that in mind when I’m under there next.

Ok next task. Install Marks rebuilt manual steering box. Removal of old box shouldn’t be an issue. Where I’m scratching my head is where to instal the pitman arm on the sector shaft of the steering box.

The FSM references mating marks on the sector shaft and the pitman arm. I think I see the ones on the sector shaft (red arrow) but can you guys confirm I have the arrow pointing to the correct mark on the pitman arm itself?

Not sure about the grease question but I do know they are going to rust if you don't paint them.

@WarDamnEagle that’s a good shout. Didn’t even consider that. Maybe I’ll wait until I get it back from the alignment shop mask and paint on Marge.
