Hi all.
Its been slow going since I had my spinal decompress surgery. All went well and hoping for 100% recovery. Bad thing is they estimate 5-6 months. Its been 4 weeks since surgery and start rehab next week. So very bored.

So I tracked down the SRS issue to a broken clock spring in the steering colum. Dip**** me didn't lock the steering when I disconnected the steering box so it was free to turn and ruin the spring. Lesson learned. Ive got a new one coming from UAE.

I've slowly been poking away at it and the ute is getting closer to finished. Scored an aluminum tray for $280 so it'll be a temporary stand in until I get mine built. Could be 1/2 year or longer the way I'm going. Lol.

And a pic. Its all I've got

I don't know she's looking real close by the looks to me I get a shock every time with the work your putting into her can't wait for the finished ute. :)

i think Ive just died and woke up in custom cruiser heaven reading about your build ,that is one hell of a build, my keyboards not working properly due to all the slobber I drooled over it.....im very inspired:)

Time to start on the inside. To keep some of that V8 rumble outside of the cab, I decided to line the tub with a butyl based product made to reduce panel vibrations and reduce road noise. The product is called Car Builders sound deadener. Install was pretty straight forward, it just took time. Seemed to stick pretty well. Carefull with the aluminium backing as it can slice you up fairly well.

Then I started on the sound system install. Component rundown.
* Pioneer AVH X2550BT head deck
* Focal PS 165V splits in the doors
* Rockford Fosgate - R2SD2-10 subwoofer
* Philips 75wx4 RMS amplifier

Its a "bitza" system but does sound really good, and it didn't break the bank.

I haven't finished the door install, so will update pics later.

And lastly, ordered some 2" raised heavy duty coils for the front to level the ute up a bit. They arrived late this arvo so quickly threw em in. Took the ute off the hoist and measured the new ride height. Well, not what I'd hoped for. The new 2" raised coils actually gave 4" of lift. Now I have a reverse stink bug stance. The old coils are 400k old, so might have saged 1" - 2".

I bought these on a clearance sale for $80 so I don't think returning them is an option.

What do you guys think, should I lift the rear to suit or try and get a set of standard height h/d coils for the front? If I lift the rear also, I might have to step up to 35" tyres to fill the gap.

Lift the rear, slap on some 35" tires man! You've got the V8 turbo!
I like your thinking. The 33s just look too small. Just remembered I still have the dual battery system and winch to go in.

Well done mate looks great

How are the coils all round mate bet it rides smooth.
Well done :)
She rides a lot smoother now. Still not where I want it but good considering the light aluminium tray. Once the steel tray, toolboxes, water tank, dual batteries, side rails go on I will remove the 400k old springs n shocks and set it up properly. Still haven't decided what to run, probs King or Icon or I may look at th OME BP-51 when they start making them.

And then a fully decked out enclosed canopy for the back. Oh the fun. It's good to finally be on road though

How difficult is it to get road worthy and compliant with the engineering "police"? What does it entail? Read many a time that they can be real strict Down Under!
Road worthy certificate is pretty easy. He rig just needs to be road safe. No cracks in the windshield, all bushes and bearings tight, brakes in good condition and pass a brake test, no rust holes in the body, good tyres, tight steering etc.

For the engineering side of it, if welding on the chassis, the engineer wants surface prep photos of all areas and photos of the components fully welded out before paint. All the materials and thicknesses must be upto his specifications. All clearances around critical component's must be maintained. No bird s*** or inclusions in the welds etc.

Then the vehicle goes to the engineer for one last inspection. The certificate and mod plate get written out and (lots of) $ gets exchanged.

If the department of transport pulls up a non compliant vehicle, they can put it off the road right away. This can vary a little from state to state. Also, a mod plated vehicle is fully insurable.

Below are some of the QLD if anyones interested.
