Lined my 80 Tan

So I didn't see this in the write up, but how many coats did you spray on? Did you just do one pretty heavy coat?

No worries. It's time for an update anyway!

Lost a tire tread at ~75 mph. The tread proceeded to whip the fender leaving rubber embedded in liner.

A little bug and tar remover and some elbow grease cleaned it up pretty well.

It still cleans up great. No noticeable fading/dulling at all.

In fact, I washed it the other day for the first time in about 7 months. All the dirt came off easily with the pressure washer.

How many kits did you use for the entire rig?

Did you use the vinyl flattener additive?

I plan on filling the cream in my oreo with coffee and I'm not sure if a 1 gallon kit will suffice given the texture I want

I think we used 2 gallons for the whole truck, IIRC. No flattener.

That looks really good. My 80 is pretty well pinstriped. If/when I need to re-paint, this is what I am going to do. Do you think that a typical paint/body shop could/would do this?

It took 3 gallons of liner to get the proper thickness. (I'm the guy spraying in the pics) Total weight is probably 30lbs of liner. Not much at all.

Lining the truck is the way to go
I did mine last year and it holds up really well
Especially when leaning and rubbing against trees and rocks etc.
If you wheel you truck hard and your paint is shot it is the way to go

Anyone know if Al's liner can be sprayed over an existing liner like Line-X? The PO removed the flares on my 80 and lined the wheel arches and I've been thinking of lining the lower body/wheel arch area in another color like dark grey.

Since my hood is clear coat hell I think it's time to follow suit, now do I keep the flares or ditch them is the big question.

I remember 10 years ago when people were using rhino liner on their rigs and it seemed not too long after(1-2years) their rigs were getting a chalky-whiteness that made this look pretty bad and would not wash off. Does AL's Liner not do this over time? I would be all over this if I knew that was not an issue down the road...

I dont know about the DIY stuff
I had my truck sprayed with LineX
I dont think that it will get chalky over time, but it will fade a little
The problem with linex is that it is expensive as hell

Kid how much was it to spray your sides? I just did my roof and it was cheaper than painting. My painter actually recommended the liner over paint because he said the rails on cruisers rust all the time here. Mine is lined all the way to the underside of the rails.

To LineX both sides up to the windows and the hood area was $1050
No roof or back it was an insurance claim
I got a little bit of a deal on it
A normal truck bed costs $600-800
LineX is still way cheaper than a good paint job

If you bought the kit with the gun, I don't see why they would be able to do it. It would be more a matter of whether or not they would want to, or if you would be willing to pay the price they want.

Should be fine. The kits come with an etching primer spray that eats into the paint or existing liner and helps the Al's bond to the surface.

Al's guarantees their liner not to degrade in any way.

I have had rhino liner on my roof for about two years now and I haven't had any fading or white-chalky substance show up. My truck sits out side most of the time. I think it has gotten better.

The chalky problem was there for about the first three years of Rhino until they added more UV additive to their formula IIRC.

OK, just ordered up two Tan kits and a gun (had to haggle with my local paint supplier a bit)

What did you do for the handles

I see you taped them up, but matched them anyways?

I pln on pulled all of mine, but I'm curious about fitment after spraying as well as shooting the hinge itself

I think if you tape them up carefully you can line them - I've been thinking about doing the same with mine. Check out this FJC handle, alot different than on an 80, but done nevertheless:

The problem with 80 handles (especially one that's not black to begin with) is that they show quite a bit of color when lifted

I plan on pulling all of them and prying them open before shooting, but I don't wanna spry too much to where they get tight

My plan is to find a rattle can paint that matches close enough. I'm pretty sure that is what the OP did too.
