My plan is to find a rattle can paint that matches close enough. I'm pretty sure that is what the OP did too.

Yup. That's what I did. I think it was Krylon camo tan or something.

Thanks. Its nice to hear that it only takes one coat. That makes application a lot quicker and easier. Glad I was able to resurrect this thread! Love the look of the tan liner (and the build of your 80 in general), and have this job near the top of my list as soon as I can get to it. I have a few paint issues to address, and this should cover those nicely, look awesome in the end, and come at a much better price than paint.

No problem. If you like the build so far, stay tuned... More UPdates next week...

Nate how is your liner holding up? I noticed it's been about three years. It's time for me to either paint or line it. I am leaning toward lining it. I am married to it and really like the durability lining offers. Trying to decide on tan or stay with white.....

The texture can be manipulated by the amount of catalyst and the application method. It can be rolled or sprayed. With spraying you can achieve a finer texture than rolling and can adjust the texture by the volume of air pressure running through the gun..

In all the research I've done, I was under the impression that a smoother finish was achieved by rolling (with a household roller) vs spraying. Then I read this. Anyone care to share their thoughts on this?

Pat

Texture is controlled with air pressure, trigger pull, shooting distance and (depending on which gun you use) nozzle size.

If you want a thick blotchy texture, use low pressure and squeeze the trigger (more feed)

If you want a fine texture, bump up the pressure and use a slight trigger pull (less feed)

I am mainly concerned with UV. I have read that UB inhibitors have really improved but I haven't seen much written from anyone that has had it on their truck for any real length of time. My buddy just had his place of business sprayed with Rhinosheild. Looks great but time will tell......

The liner looks real good. I wonder how well it would work here. I'd be concerned about the sun/heat and red dirt staining it. Hmmm may be an option as my clear coat is dying...

Thats the reason I did mine, clear coat on the hood was horrible.
I used 2 of Al's kits, probably could have used 3 but I'm going over it with JD Blitz black so I went a bit lighter on the hood and rear and heavy on the rockers and doors and rear quarters.

You can get a kit of Als for $85 with free shipping if you play the advance auto coupon game right.

By far the biggest hassle is prep prep prep prep. Grinding it down is no fun and neither is taping it off. Plus removing anything you don't want shot is time consuming.

Considering all this the fact that I'll never wax or polish it, be bothered with low hanging branches on the trail or rock chips on the road made doing it worth it to me.

You can get Al's from advance auto? Can you elaborate on this?

Pat
