They all have to say Bendix licensed because of the history of brake booster development and IP agreements. :)

The more you know :) 👍

There is a lot of confusion about the brake booster. From what I recall, the current Toyota replacement out of the box have exact same markings as the one you bought.

I found the thread on it.

I don't know if it is worth time arguing about who/what are OEM; however, from what I have seen, the Seiken unit (that likely is made by someone else) has performed well over time.

I saw that thread too. Seems like a mystery with these things......I do know one thing...it will probably be better than a reman Cardone unit :)

All this brake booster talk and I just realized I posted it in the wrong thread. The side effects of multi tasking and having too many trucks. This went on the #1 truck.....not the #2.

Thanks for doing this thread. I have been following along for a while and got sucked into the rabbit hole of keeping up a long time ago. My mom lives in Odessa. I would love to see this in person some time when I am down.

You're welcome to swing on by anytime...we get a lot of Mud guys coming to the shop. Just give me a heads up. Lots of cool stuff to see here...lots :)

I'm sure you have every tool under the sun... but I love these little tools that I didn't know existed.
Like the brake booster/master depth alignment tool.

While we're down and out, figured it was a good time to add this Dobinsons adjustable steering stabilizer.....really substantially built piece. I'll play around with the adjustment as soon as we get the truck back on the road.

Different looking for sure. Kind of strange not seeing a yellow stabilizer on the front of a Cruiser for me....I think one has been on every truck since the mid 90s :)

What are your thoughts on the steering stabilizer? Was thinking of picking one up, not much info to be found on them as far as user feedback.

The steering stabilizer does it's job just fine on this truck....can't say I've put it thru its paces though. I was contemplating swapping out steering stabilizers from #2 to #1 before heading up to TN.....would like to see how the Dobinsons unit does offroad.

Made some changes to the old girl over the last few weeks....figured I should update this thread and keep the dream alive. Ha.

The 1HZ turbo that was in this truck was kind of a lemon.....has the ticking noise that so many people complain about. Covered about 10k miles with it in there and I finally had enough. The ticking never changed....always the same sound at the same RPM. I’ve got a couple other 1HZs in trucks and I can hear the same ticking noise in them but much much quieter. I seem to recall reading something about crankshaft flex causing it. Doesn’t matter now because it’s sitting on the shop floor in it’s own little corner :)

Bought this FT a while ago....

Tore it all down, cleaned everything, plated all the hardware, painted the motor, injectors and pump went out for rebuilding....everything is pretty much new. We got pretty heavily into vapor blasting and plating the hardware in-house....this was one of our first projects as I recall.

That is beautiful. I was really impressed with the plating you were doing when I stopped by the shop. Need to revisit that setup.

We built our own vapor blast cabinet. The vapor blasting is simply amazing....parts come out as if they were just cast. It’s hard to believe.

Cabinet was a Harbor Freight sand blast cabinet that we heavily converted to make it work with water and glass beads. Pretty complicated and pricey build but worth every penny. Size is a little small but so far I think it’s worked for everything we have needed to do.

We’ve learned quite a bit about how this thing works.....and how to get stuff really shiny. Adjusting the ratio of glass beads/aluminum oxide along with pressures, really changes things. We’re coating everything we do with Cerakote Ceramic clear. I’ll have to see exactly what the name of it is.

Some Defender 90 garbage that I wanted to practice on.....

Plating is handled with a Caswell Copy Cad kit.....1.5 gallon in our case. It’s a insanely long process to do it.....sonic cleaning, acid bath to remove plating, sand blast, polish on wire wheel, string up on copper wire, clean, quick dip in pickling solution, plate. We’re doing enough now that we should probably just send it out but when it comes to small batches, this kit is tough to beat.
This is our setup...we keep it all on a cart. It’s a bit of a messy job and the learning curve is wide. Hard to be consistent with it. Sometimes it’s perfect, sometimes it’s not as perfect.

We do gold chromate and blue chromate mostly. I have some of their black chromate....super cool. We’re getting ready to do a motor with all black hardware next I think.

Some of our stuff....

Pretty basic stuff.....out with the old.

Ready for that FT.....almost.

So a couple things needed to be done to get the FT in.....of course it’s a bolt in deal but we knew we were going to have to change AC stuff since the compressor for the FT is very different from the 1HZ/1HDT. We have a pretty good solution for that. Fuel delivery needs to change as well. This truck runs 10mm fuel Iines. FT wants 12mm so we need to address that. Going to run a setup similar to what’s on my #1 truck.

First this needs to get into the engine bay....but not before we bolted on a Gturbo green wheel turbo. Manifold is sprayed with Cerakote’s air cured coating. Special mix of Glacier Gold and Glacer Titanium.
