Decided to treat myself to an H152. No real reason the truck needed a new trans but bringing down the RPMs on the highway was something I wanted to do. I’ve been driving this truck a lot more than I expected....should be a great combo.
Of course these need the input shafts swapped so we did that.

More fun.
We cut down the VDJ long input shaft to use as a clutch alignment tool.....I don’t know if using it made the trans slide in perfect or what but I don’t think I can ever remember a trans going in without any messing around. Slid right in first shot.

While the trans was out we popped in the bigger fuel pickup assembly. Used an HDJ79 part.
Because of the 80 series frame and the way it fits, this tank is really hard to get in and out....so we just dropped it enough to access the pickup....then stuffed it back up.
We’ll pull the bed next week and put a HDJ79 rear tank pickup in the sub tank and run a new hardline to the tank switching valve.....another HDJ79 part....12mm fittings.

I drove my camper truck up to Virginia over the holidays and realized that the lights weren’t ideal(I run some higher end LED bulbs in them that are actually pretty good) and since we have always messed around with headlights in the shop, I figured why not give the lights in the pickup a makeover.
I run HIDs in my Morimoto Mini H1 bi-xenons in a couple of my other cars.....they work really well.....but now they have bi LED housings....so that’s the way I went.
Neat part. They don’t use a bulb....all self contained. They do have a small ballast that mounts outside the headlight.
They have a cool threaded adapter that allows them to mount where the OE bulb went.
They don’t quite fit flush so there is some trimming required on the reflector. Initially I spaced the bulb out about 6mm but that was too close to the lens.....so I ended up cutting the reflector to clear the fan(these LEDs are cooled with a small fan)which gave them enough room to sit flush in the houseing. Pretty simple headlight compared to a lot that we have worked on over the years but very easy to get very wrong. Delicate surfaces that don’t always like being touched.
Shroud on. These clip on to the headlight bezel. There are ways to sink them closer to the reflector(shroud gets trimmed) but then you have a lot of bulb hanging out of the back of the housing. They may have a deeper shroud but I’m not overly concerned about it.

I used these breathers.....saw some guys adding them so I figured it couldn’t hurt to have a little more venting since there is a fan in the lights now.

Not so sure I’m all about the look of them but their output is as good as any of the modern high dollar cars we work on. Amazing. My LX470 has a set of the H1 Morimoto Bi Xenons in it and these seem to have double the light output. The xenons are extremely impressive on that LX......crisp cutoff and great light output. These are better.
The city light was on in this pic.....I have those bulbs pulled in my lights but maybe with some bright white bulbs, they might look OK.

Kind of weird looking. Maybe not weird but certainly different. To me it looks like a really cheap Pep Boys light which I throughly dislike BUT.....they work so well, I’ll deal with the look. Tempted to try a set of black ones next.

Started a new set today....these have the reflector cut to clear the fan so the bulb assembly is further back in the housing. Using a different shroud on these as well.
These might go black for the 70th anniversary look.....not 100% into the look but it’s growing on me. Maybe with the same grill it will come together. I’ve got one of the grills to use too

Pretty much finished under the hood....stole a FZJ80 air cleaner assembly off a parts truck and adapted it to make a 3.5” intake into the turbo. Catch can got mounted. AC all buttoned up. We ended up using a 2003 Tacoma compressor with an FT clutch. The Tacoma compressor allowed us to use a manifold that accepted universal fittings so we could build our own lines. Hard to do this using OEM stuff.....this was the best setup for what we needed. Adapted the 2 factory lines to work. Nice to be able to do all of this in-house.
