I had been pondering a solution to be able to lock my drawers and found a reasonable low cost option that can be sourced at Lowes or HD. Two locks keyed alike, total investment was just shy of $15

It required drilling two 3/4” holes and adding a small latch plate to the underside of the top deck. Its secure but if you really wanted in I suppose a few substantial pulls would compromise the latch (unless through bolted). But it keeps the drawers in place and lazy thieves honest.

When glueing down speaker carpet, do you guys finish/seal the wood first? I suppose the carpet is not waterproof?

My drawers are due to arrive today or tomorrow. I had a tough time making a decision between "cutouts" or "blanks". I went with "cutouts" and was thinking of doing something similar.

Im sure there are better and more secure solutions but this was quick and simple.

How do you plan to finish your drawer set up?

Also I noticed somewhere in this thread, somone put a piece of aluminum 1/4 round on the facing edge of the top deck. Anyone have a clue what or where that material can be sourced?

I'm not sure what was used but I've sourced aluminum from Onlinemetals.com many times with excellent results. Also, 8020.net is a trusted site too.

Well, even if you went for fancy high security high dollar locks, you would still have exposed screws and a nice big slot for a crowbar. The cabinet/drawer locks seem like a nice balance.

Have 2 sets arriving, I'm leaning towards staining my kit, my son is still undecided on his.

I like the look of these:

I have no idea what trim the previous poster(s) used, but have been looking for an equivalent here:

My (2) drawer kits arrived today. (Damn, those are some dense boxes. I understand the shipping cost a little better now. They're F'ing heavy, and hard to grab ahold of too)

I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Let the adventure begin...

Yes, I've done this as well as a couple others I believe. Here's what I used and it came out great:

Put aluminum trim on the leading edge to protect it from dings. I’m going to hinge the sides, so not planning on trimming there.

DANG, I haven't received any alerts for activity in this thread and been over in 200-land working on a new set for them so missed the fact there were all these questions!

I bought a set of drawers back in January but only now getting a chance to install. Everything from the quality of the design itself to the parts, the instructions, is top notch! One question I did have for @cruzerDave is , do you recommend painting the drawer pieces, individually or after assembling into a drawer?

Anything thick like a Rhinoliner I would definitely do AFTER you have assembled as that thickness might affect fit & finish. Anything thin it's up to you and your equipment/method/what's easier. If you want a little bit seeping into the seams between pieces and filling in/smoothing them out then after.

What size should I buy for the top rubber mat? According to drawer spec "Top: 59"W x 42"D", 4'x5' should suffice. But looking at recommendations here: Land Shark Outfitters
  • Rubber Mat: 1/8x48x60"
  • PVC Flooring: 2.5mm (1/8") x4' x 6'
A bit confused, should 4'x5' suffice to cover the wings as well? There's now about $12 difference between the 5' and 6' so if 5' would work I'd want to save a bit.

5' is all you need (LC and LX same) but those particular linked options were only available in 4'x6' at the time I threw the links on there, hence the 6'. The nice thing about the extra foot is you can use it the drawers (at least partially) so it doesn't have to go to waste.

Just put the drawers together tonight. Excellent instructions, but I'd suggest to add in the 1st page "Make sure there's enough cold beer in the refrig before you start!"

Not something that ever crosses my mind (day job is Deschutes Brewery for those that didn't know) so thanks for pointing out! For data collection purposes, did you feel 2-3 beers is the right amount, or is it more?

Also wanted to give a shout out on the ChumBuckets tool bags- these things are great. Material is tough, and fits a surprising amount of tools.

So what's the correct beer (brand/style), and quantity required, for proper assembly of the KISS drawers?

If I do 2 sets back-to-back, do I double the quantity of beers, or does the experience from the 1st set reduce the beer count by one or two?
