Thanks for the business @sammybones @thegreatgazoo and @chudly, welcome to the club! In addition to this thread be sure to spend some time in the Customization page of the site (Land Shark Outfitters), I've tried to pull together ideas from other threads and customer pics from elsewhere as an idea farm and product link source. You've got 3-4 weeks to prepare ;)

I’m new to this forum thing but was encouraged to post. Here are a couple mod ideas.

Did you laser-cut that cutting board relief, or dull router bit? Really Nice! Can you post up Part#'s you used to modify?

Brilliant. Are those the same Ultra HMW slides and extruded aluminum pieces that Dave uses for the drawers?

That extruded aluminum is 80/20, the stuff is awesome. @cruzerDave, are those extruded slides custom made for you? They look awesome, would like to use them on a project I am working on (not drawer related!)

80/20 Inc UHMW Standard Sliding Door Glide Profile 10 Series #6710 x 36" N | eBay

Here they are. Grab them off of 8020 eBay site for some standard sizes or if you need an odd size go to 8020.net and type in 6710 for the product code.

Dave isn't lying when he says its takes up the majority of the cost for the drawers. Really high quality.

It's a very elegant design, thanks for sharing with us.

Is that Minwax in the background the next mod?

lol, I wish I was, because then I could be secretly reaping massive profits and quit the day job ;) I've looked into having custom or larger volumes made for me as well, but the material is too specialized and the tooling too expensive to make any sense whatsoever.

Love how your idea turned out @Marleyboard, really well done. If enough interest in this I might sell the modified drawer face, slides and aluminum as a kit, unsure on the cutting board... maybe stainless over baltic birch.... thoughts?

Gotta say that after putting this stuff together it gave me a real appreciation for the r&d that cruzer Dave put into this. Love the flexibility of the aluminum with the modifiable nature of the plywood. The stuff is pricey and I would have spent twice as much and overbuilt if I had tried to make drawers like this myself from scratch! Predrilled placement and joint alignments were awesome-thanks Dave!
To some of the questions, I just duplicated the original drawer face cutout with a jig saw and sanding. I am a little limited where I live in options for the board/materials without a hefty drive. Had a few original plans that involved it using the 80/20 within the existing frame but that would have required more precise edging on the chosen board/material than I am able to do w/o a table saw at the moment. Opted for a prefab board (12x36) to ensure it mates well with the plastic slides. I did indeed use the same materials Dave uses and he helped me with that. Not sure on exact weight tolerance but it is sturdy, those slides are amazing. Can't imagine rollers after trying this stuff. Won't be for everyone but adds a needed work area for me and could serve other options, i.e. pet ramp, tailgate work space, etc.
Not sure on the overall endgame, I like carpet, wife likes wood, but am loving seeing what everyone else has done. Will wait till I have had it installed awhile to make a final decision. Still have some potential mods (extended top to front seat area) depending on wha it is like when in. Don't want to finish out completely till then. Hope that is helpful!

Thinking about ordering a drawer kit for my new LX470 /2001. I was just wondering if I have to remove the 3rd row seat belts and if so, does it require to remove the interior panels?

Yes, you have to remove a few cargo area panels to access the belt spool and remove it. The lower anchor just unbolts without removing any panels.

You do not need to remove the 3rd row seat belts to install the drawers.

FYI- front runner cub packs fit perfect and 3 deep without the lids!

Well of course they do! Cause I, err, meant them to, uh, you know, like fit in there as part of the, uh, design and stuff....

Crud I can't lie. Total news to me, thanks for posting. Never tried that, and I even have (and love) one of those (Howling Moon, I think, before FrontRunner took them on) for years now! I was debating a sleeping platform that you could slide those under, but held off cause of the other product that popped up a year ago. Now you have me thinking again...

Enjoy the drawers and thanks for sharing!

I would definitely be interested in a cutting board/shelf kit. A non permeable/easy to clean surface would be a definite plus. Maybe an inset for a removable HDPE cutting board for easy cleaning?

After driving around with my awesome KISS drawers for a few months I started getting some squeaks from between the top wood & metal rails, and from the side wing hinges. Lubing the hinges with dry lithium grease spray quieted them down.

Then I applied some felt tape between the top wood and metal frame and that squeaking is gone too. Here's what I did:

Apply tape to one side of the rail, making sure to overhang the edge from which you'll be sliding the top panels on. Else the tape catches & rolls up as you're sliding the top:

Trim the tape to get a second thin strip:

Apply the second strip to the other side, being sure to overlap the end:

Burnish the tape down:

Gently slide the tops back on:

This would be easiest done, of course, during initial assembly (hint, hint), but is just as easy after installation too.
