Might need to go with an exo-skeleton too.....maybe one painted white.

Are the elderly drivers in Central Florida really that dangerous? :D
All that extra metal ( exo-skeleton ) will attract every pigeon in the State and you know what pigeons do when they set around bored. :)

You have no idea how bad the roads are around FL. Thankfully they're very straight....if there were bends, curves, hills, they would impassable.....like armageddon. It's crazy. Not the reason I want the rollbar though but certainly a good enough reason to sell myself on it.

I thought the average citizen ate dinner at 4:30 - 5:00pm and then went home so it should be safer to drive after that time period. :D

If you don't do that full exo, at least add those two air horns shown on post 141!!!

That should make sure they can hear you if they forget to turn the hearing aids up.

We install a lot of air horns for customers....fun stuff, especially when you get a new technician to 'listen closely around the front of the truck for that odd bearing noise'.....air horn blast for him. Air horn hijinx....always entertaining.

Back on track......FINALLY finished the the tank cradle. A little hard to tell what is going on from the pics probably. We basically made a 1/8" steel plate cradle to support the tank thru the center/square part of the tank bottom and up the front and rear faces. We suspended it at 4 points using some OME leaf spring bushings in double shear brackets mounted front and rear(made a really cool U channel for one of the crossmembers at the front of the tank...welded them to the rear of the frame). We get a little bit of give with those AND we can drop the tank out the bottom although I'm not quite sure why I went that route since pulling the bed on this truck to remove the tank from the top might take 30 minutes at the most. Seemed like a good idea on paper....probably wouldn't do it this way again. Most importantly, the tank is secure, safe and isolated.....those were my goals all along. I probably will end up extending the left and right sides of the cradle up around the sides of the tank for max protection. 3/16" aluminum tank, Line-X coating, 1/8" steel plate surrounding it.......pretty sure not much will go thru this tank.

Very nice ......
The good ole boys in my neighborhood would have just duct taped a couple of milk jugs together and plumbed it with a used water hose. A bicycle inner tube and some super glue and you would have an emergency repair kit. :D

I knew I should have saved the milk jugs.....wonder if they'd be good with Line-X'd milk jugs....

Cicak:

When asked how many gallons the tank would hold, the salty old guy who built it said, "Guess you'll know when you fill it up".......so, I'll have to wait to see how much. We think about 30 gallons.

I actually use my rear tank on average twice a month just to make sure it works.
I'll use it for a few miles and then switch back to the front tank. The rear tank is full of commercial diesel while the front tank is topped off with bio-diesel. :)

I wish I had 2 tanks....I just didn't want to take the gamble of getting an OEM 79 series diesel tank for the cab and having either a driveline clearance issue or issues with pumps, etc. I'll just run my rear tank. Having the additional weight over the rear will be a bonus....I'm also running all the OEM FZJ80 fuel system components....kind of important to me.

Had a nice and convenient opening in that 79 series bed too....made it too easy.

Bed is on! We're making really good progress(although I have a 2 page list of things to still do)....tank, lines, exhaust all cleared perfectly under the bed(didn't plan on it not fitting). First time I've seen the truck together with the skinny tires/steel wheels......I think they're going to fit really well under the fender flares. One of my major issues was how wide the 80 is compared to the 70 series....I like the narrow look with the tires tucked in the wheel wells on the OEM trucks. Front is going to be perfect....rear might be a hair outside the fender flare. Not the end of the world I suppose.

Next week we pull the tank carrier for powdercoat, pull the exhaust for final welding(and build a tip behind the rear tire), sort out the AC condenser/lines. Probably take care of the power steering cooler and the trans cooler too while we're up there.

Very nice.....
I looked at the above photo for quite a while trying to figure out what was missing.
It finally dawned on me that the side steps on the rear bed are missing. :)

Ha....actually the drivers side is on. Not sure why the other side didn't make it on the truck....probably the fact that it was 5pm on the Friday of a long weekend. I was pretty surprised when I saw the one side on. Those steps are cool....

I very seldom use mine to access the rear bed but I agree they belong there and they "complete" the look. :)
I am hoping to get mine in the paint shop this coming week to put the same black textured material on the rear steps that was applied to the running boards.

Go skinny tyres! Looking good, no Sunraysia steel rims?

Looks like a close gap between the box and the cab.
What is your measurement actually?:hhmm:
Nice work!

Normally approximately a 1" gap. You can almost fit your hand in between the cab and the box. :)

Bed gap is off.....nothing is in it's exact location just yet. We'll be pulling the cab off again as well as the bed I'm sure. Just wanted a quick look and to make sure everything cleared the bed.

Other side with step.....
