"Fixed the wire today. First I lifted the passenger side, easy to do via the sliders. Locked the truck in place and kept front wheel in the air. I tried various ways to make it look professional, I finally gave up and added a short connecting wire with twist nuts and copious amount of tape. Some day I may let a pro do this permanent fix.

Afterwards, tested everything and works perfectly. Front wheel won't turn when CDL is locked, all good. But I did find a surprise while poking under the truck., keep reading.

While under truck ,found one nut very loose in front drive shaft, so I guess that was why the CDL failure occurred, someone wanted me to check that out! This is how I found it.

Next, I was feeling vibration at startup with OPOR sliders, they hit the cat rear bolt, so I took the opportunity to raise the rusty broken down exhaust a bit with some toys from Lowes plumbing dept

And finally, rewound the winch! I winched myself in my driveway, felt like a wearing my camel trophy boonie hat. That's it for today. Can't wait to go wheeling again. Also got my new AARP card, times is running out...

Now I have a code P0420, dang it. Since I fiddle with the exhaust, and moved the rear cat up 1/2" to clear the OPOR slilder, I might have created a leak down there? The bolts and flanges are very rusted, will try some of that exhaust tape, don't want to change exhaust yet.

An the amateur hour continue. Seafoam, that useless wonder, bought some toda and was going to fumigate the truck, but couldn't complete that task as I discovered this! Will do a field repair while I find an intake hose replacement. Looks like $80 is a good price. Checking Alibaba, could buy 10...

Ordered temp replacement from Amazon, someone else on mud did the same so got the idea there. $17 overnight delivery is hard to beat. Also did the seafoam spray treatment tonight, to avoid prying eyes.

It does look fine to me. But I only use pure Japanese components in my truck, that's why I import bottled Mt. Fuji air to refill my tires!;)

The only reason I would change it is if I get these from Alibaba, need to order 10, but at $4.77 each could be "original looking", or keep as spare. I haven't received the landed cost yet from 2 suppliers. If I do get them, will sell at cost to anyone who wants one.

Seafoam treatment complete. All mosquitoes dead in South Charlotte.

I wondered what that fog was that drifted across Chesnee yesterday

That's the stuff I added to the gas tank. And Amazon is 1/2 the price of the store. I used the spray version to clean the intake. Cheaper at Autozone for the spray. Not sure if it made a difference, might be in my head and gave me something to do, but it did lead me to find the cracked intake hose, so the smooth idle I have now could be that or the the Seafoam, it was a "compounded experiment", can't isolate it.

Neighbors that have old classic cars tell me the stuff is great and their mechanics swear by it. So, figure why not check it out?

Plus it's(seafoam) a whole lot of fun to drive around and see the looks on people's faces!

I did it on my 60 and it really smoked, but not sure if it actually did anything.

But it's one of those things that u just gotta try at least once.

Tried it once on an old '70 FJ40. Fouled a couple of plugs. That was all it did. Not a fan...

Well, after the adventure today at Uwharrie, 2 casualties with power steering lost at Dickey Bell and cracked rear lens lettin some yobos through. Fixed the power steering (thanks JohnVee!) , but will need to replace lense eventually. Maybe will pour some seafoam and see if it fixes it?

Anyway, met up with Darrin at the outpost and great catching up with him, and spent the day with my Son, he drove a good bit and loved it. What could be better...

Damn, he looks just like you... But younger, stronger, faster, smarter, stronger. Put some clear packing tape over the lens and be done with it! And throw in some LED reverse lights while access is good. PFran (on MUD) or Superbrightleds.com have good options.

Did you get 4 or 5 tires in the new size? Is the spare still below the truck or inside?

Yes he is, many times over. 5th wheel? Still hanging under truck like the day I got it, same tire. Wasn't thinking about it either, another Homer moment.

Hope the steering gear box nut holds, that puppy was seeping hard. FSM does have a washer seal, haven't found it yet on line but have diagram to show dealer. I have seen a few kits with seals for it,mit is probably one of those but which? Worse case a reman unit is $540. Sheeeeet. Maybe I hit the bottom of the pitman arm nut and that pushed the gear shaft up a bit and loosened nut? I'll keep an eye on it. Otherwise, awesome day and conquered Dickey Bell first time.

Those things look bigger than 33's! I like the look of that tube bumper. I noticed a thread where you'd adjusted the screw to clean up some slop in your steering. Could that have anything to do with the seepage? I tend to doubt it, but was thinking of adjusting my box as well as my steering is getting a little loose.

Adjusting that? No, that wasn't me, it was my evil twin. But I would leave the box alone if I could. Now trying to find that washer to reseal.

Part number is 90210-10001 from Toyota. Thanks to Landtank for that, its $4.78. If you adjust the screw, order this washer first and replace it. FSM shows its a "do not reuse" part, and probably after 22 years of not being messed with I , I mean my evil twin, destroyed the seal by adjusting. Now I get to replace it...

Next Evolution, extending the differential breathers. I saw a few threads, all help, but missing pictures so here is how I did it. Like everything in MUD so far, it takes me 3x as long to do jobs.
  1. Need Briggs and Stratton fuel filters (2), 25 ft fuel rubber line, 10mm socket, 12mm socket, 1/2" copper pipe hanger, yellow tie wraps. Yes, yellow, it's too technical t explain why.
  2. First lift truck driver side and secure with jack stands, breathers are on driver side
  3. Rear one was easier, remove line from top of diff bar, use 12mm socket to remove bracket from frame. Reuse bracket
  4. Use 10mm socket to remove rearmost rear wheel splash cover, 3 screws and comes right out.
  5. Insert filter on new hose, push into fuel filler area and tie wrap secure. Continue tie wrap back to diff, leave slack for future movement.
  6. Insert new hose to diff nipple and secure all remove parts and brackets, done.
After removing old hose, I (cleaned it) and blew on it, that sucker is dead, no air came or went.
