I think the wiring harness that is plug and play is the one thing that should be made available to buy. The other things aren't that bad for anyone with a little fabbing skills. It's the wiring harnesses that are hard to do...... those are the only things stopping me from starting on my engine swaps.

2nd that! Great point. Please make and sell the wireharness too.

Does anyone have any idea how to get an 80 with this 100 series powerplant registered in California?

The provisions in Cali when I did a legal engine swap there was the engine has to be from a vehicle newer than the one it is going in to and you have to reuse the gas tank, never understood that one, and the emission stuff from the newer vehicle.

Christo,

You and the boys are amazing. I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the SAS 100 Series you built that was in Gilmer this weekend. That is a beautiful truck.

Up. That truck is pretty cool, but better yet that Paul uses it a lot.

This is a great idea. $10,000 is right in line for what you would have in a good Gen III/IV GM, Mark's adapter and all the related stuff.

Most in this world would rather have 1/2 the HP just to have a Toyota heart.

There are some nice offerings engine offerings that are nor supplied with all emissions stuff etc. But as you say, we are kinda Toyota freaks.

The gas tank and it's associated plumbing play a role in evaporative emissions.

Yeah makes sense but was a pain in the ass to work with :grinpimp:

H.P.

Slee,

So what is the hp of the swapped motor vs. the original? Please excuse me I don't know.
I'm looking at a swap also. I have a 23' Airstream camper and my original 80 motor does not like hills.

No doubt.

I fail to see the charm of living in CA. the regulatory bull**** at all levels is simply repressive. Nice weather is not worth that much to me.

I volunteer mine for that run.

I kinda hope it would beat me. I really want an excuse to add two more cylinders, likely in the form of a 6.1 mopar SRT motor....:hillbilly: I want to put an aluminum 426 in my Challenger and stick the 6.1 out of that in the Cruiser........... Mmmmm 425 horse.

:flipoff2: Dan, FWIW IIRC the two times I've called you to verify part availability you inevitably asked "How is it out there (CA)?' to wich I replied both times "F this, we're thinking AZ or NV!". :D

Christo, cool build, nice to see another one out there, way to make me feel that my 4Runner's even more useless.

Generally in California you would have to take it to a emissions referee. This person will make sure that you have all of the smog equipment that is made for the motor you are putting in the vehicle. If everything checks out and you get a easy going ref. They will rivet a federal sticker on your truck that has a bar code on it. This will be scanned every time you need to do a smog. That is the short answer. Sorry for the H hijack.

+10000.....

This is really great work from the experts. With gas prices at $4 a gallon it would be nice if we could get better gas mileage from either drivetrain; are there any options like a higher overdrive in the transmission or transfer case?? IDK.

Very nice Christo. I am glad I got rid of my 100 and 80 or would have ended up writing you ANOTHER check.

Let me know when you get a SAS kit for a GX470 done :)

Christo,

My hats of to you guys what a nice clean job.
One thing that would make this even more attractive is better mileage as well as the given power. Do you have any figures on MPG?

Swapping a newer gas motor into an older car is not a problem in California. That shouldn't stop any Californians considering this from Slee.

It's the diesel thing that's a problem, even that can be done, just more difficult.

Delivered one to a customer as well this week.
