I hate to be dense but if the 4.7L works with the 100 series tranny and transfer in an 80, why wouldn't the 5.7L? I'm ignoring the tranny may not bolt to the 3UR.

Not the easiest thing to find a 100 donor, but any of the other donors with v8 has the transfer case outputs centered in the rear and wrong side on the front.

This truck was done with LC parts and a Tundra ECU with LC harness. That complicated matters, however you do not have to deal with chipped keys. It would be easier to deal with chipped keys than what we did on this one. You can bolt the 80 transfer case to the 100 tranny. So you need a 4.7 of some sorts, a 100 harness & Ecu with keys and a 100 tranny.

I know when I did the motor swap into my BMW I was able to buy a new chip for my engine brainbox - the exact chip most replace for a "performance chip" - that had coded key functions disabled since the motor, harness & brainbox I bought didn't come with the key (some do, so you can zip tie the key into the car somewhere)

IIRC the industry calls it EWS defeat/disable.

Just a FYI (more for the rest of us, I'm sure Christo knows/banged his head over EWS already) in case chips for boxes become a lot more $$$ viable option down the line instead of super specific harness & box combo once the bulk of the supply dries up.

Heck of a good timing on this, I haven't even popped my hood to further investigate my grey smoke of last week, I have a gut feeling I may be in line for something like this if I don't find a 1FZ I want to swap with nothing more than a HG tradeout.

Nice! That install looks fantastic. I need one of those fan shrouds!

Are you capable of making the a/c lines in house? I had difficulty finding someone that could crimp the odd sized hoses. I saw yours was not installed yet. Mine was also a bit tight around the p.s. lines, but fix that and also re-routed the brake line in front of the steering box.

Did you tuck the MAF sensor in the filter box, or is it in the tube? Im thinking of re-doing the air cleaner box.

How far forward is the transfer case?

did you cut any part of the tranny tunnel for the t-case?

Ive never driven the 1fz powered 80's, but the 2uz should have been offered in the 80 from the factory! I love mine.

Sorry for the million questions....Drive on! jason

Not that easy to remove the key security on Toyota. They do make boxes that you can program to have the key security so you can install remote starts, but you still need the original key and ecu to make it work.

AC lines are next, but we have a shop in town that can do them.

Maf is in the tube

How far forward is the transfer case?

About 6"

Nope,

The 200 transfercase front output is on the wrong side to match the 80 axle. I doubt also if the engine will fit inside the frame rails and shock towers.

Nice work Christo! Good to see your re-investing on the 80 once again. Too bad there is no adaptor to mate to the 80 transfer case or even the 80 manual transmission. Seems very reliable and adds too much cost to the set up to replace it all. If a person is going to invest that much in the drive train it may make more sense to invest in a cheap chevy set up just because of the availability of the LS motors and afterrmarket alone. Maybe a core charge for the old 4.5l and setup for another market to reduce the cost?
Unfortunatly the link isnt working for me so can I stop by and take a test drive to maybe convince me to be a customer once again? Last time you let me take your cruiser for a spin I think it was the old bus before it was painted yellow when you just started up in your garage in lakewood i think it was to test your original suspension lift combo. Anyway my lift is still working great and good to see you invest your time before you release another product once again.

Hey Christo...how does this compare to a TRD supercharged truck?

By the way...it looks great.

The 80 transfer case can be retained. We just chose not too.

10 years ago, this year is when we opened the shop. We are planning a customer appreciation birthday party this year. So that is how long ago it was. Anyway, feel free to stop by and drive it. It will put a smile on your face.

I think it performs better, but I have not driven a stock 80 with SC in a while. We have one in the back that we have to do some fixing to. Once that is done, we are planning the drag race. :)

Yup.

The 5.7L is a huge engine width-wise compared to even the 4.7L 2UZ which is already a wide engine.

The 5.7L was originally developed by Toyota for the Tundra in the US and then adapted to the 200 series afterwards.

When CDan and I were with Mot at the TAB Yoshiwara plant, we were amazed at how huge the LX570/200 series frame was. We saw them as rolling chassis out in the yard before they were brought in and mated with their bodies and powerplants.

The 200 engine bay is huge compared to the 1FZ 80....

Nice work Slee. How would this swap impact Dual battery set ups? the radiator is still 80 series?
I just installed the pass side tray on mine for a second battery. I had to move the PS res, but other than that its the same as adding a second tray anyway. Moving the washer bottle etc.

Not trying to jack the thread but here is a pic

Christo,

You and the boys are amazing. I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the SAS 100 Series you built that was in Gilmer this weekend. That is a beautiful truck.

This is a great idea. $10,000 is right in line for what you would have in a good Gen III/IV GM, Mark's adapter and all the related stuff.

Most in this world would rather have 1/2 the HP just to have a Toyota heart.

I think those figures are a bit off, you can get a brand new lsx from GM performance parts for under 5K, i've seen good used ones for under 1k. I guess it all depends where you look
