Think it is a little limited on market. Few users out there that would really want it for what we do.
Tablet is definitely awesome for it... If I had to do over again, I would probably save a little longer and go for something like a Lenovo X250 or newer just to have bit better specs. The 12.5" screen of my S1 Yoga 12 is nice, little bigger screen of the Xseries (13.3") would be a nice little improvement but overall I am seriously in love with this little thing.
Yeah I figured that too, I'm probably one of very few who would go for something like that. But I work a 4/10 schedule now and with other projects going on over the weekends I really don't want to go through the trouble of setting up all the files on my own.

Put it this way -- if someone wants to make another similar turn-key setup for a reasonable price, I'll buy it.

For a long time the limitation was having a older Win 7 laptop laying around. But with TIS being able to run on Win 10 now, no reason you shouldn't be able to get it working on almost anything with Win 10 on it.

I bought the tablet off Ebay and the buyer on Amazon I got the miniVCI cable from offered full set up - just install a TeamView program that allowed him to remote in, he did the full driver install to make sure it worked. Super nice guy, piece of cake. Looking on Amazon it doesn't look like there's more available, but there's a ton of similar items that offer set up.

So I had this connect once, made a few changes then came back to Mud to find more options to quiet down the beeping, bonging, warnings, and alarms.
Doing the exact same 'start VM, open TechSteam, turn on ignition with door open' and now it will not connect. Get the USB error. The VM sees the cable, the app is set to the X-Horse MVCI but it will still not 'connect to vehicle'.

EDIT: Resolved by changing USB ports on laptop

Finally got techstream up and running, my "generic" OBD2 cable did not work and here is the one I got off of amazon for anyone else looking.

Amazon product ASIN B084H75MZ3
Did you use the software included with the new cable you got off Amazon? I just ordered the same since it's compatible with Win10. Just curious what you did to get everything to work.

I ended up just following the instructions provided in the original post and downloaded the software through those links. My cable did not come with any software.

Getting Techstream up and running can be a bit of a pain. Hopefully this helps someone get started quickly.

Step 1: Purchase an OBD-II interface. One option:
- Amazon product ASIN B06XGB714M ($20, Prime)

Step 2: Download VirtualBox for Your Operating System:
- Windows: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.2.4/VirtualBox-5.2.4-119785-Win.exe
- MacOS: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.2.4/VirtualBox-5.2.4-119785-OSX.dmg

Step 3: Install VirtualBox Software You Just Downloaded
- Windows: Double-Click downloaded file
- MacOS: Double-Click downloaded file, run installer

Step 4: Download TechStream Image:
- MEGA (V2! Click to download)

Step 5: Double-Click downloaded file.

Connect & Enjoy.

Edit (4/8/18): I removed the more expensive cable, as I received a new Mini-VCI cable that works 100% at 1/4 the cost.

I followed the instructions you had and they worked perfectly. I have the J2534 Mini-VCI which worked with the image flawlessly. I greatly appreciate your help and getting us an virtual image that work right out the box.

Thanks again.

This was working earlier but now I'm getting an error when I try to connect: Unable to connect to VIM.

Any idea what's wrong?

Doing this on a Mac, downloaded the newest version of VirtualBox and the newest that I can find techstream 14.20.019, when launching VB which OS do I chose? 7, 64 bit im assuming?

You should be able to if the version of TechStream is 64bit..

I just did this on my 16' MBP running Catalina. Everything works great, the font on the VM running XP is super tiny and hard to read at times, anyone knows a way to make it larger?

You just gotta go in XP and make the font bigger. Also going into display settings may help.

I just got this working myself. The instructions are very literal and don't make it more difficult than it is. Make sure at step 5 you have the Virtualbox open and import the file getco created and you downloaded from Mega. It has everything you need, Windows XP, TechStream, and some instruction for help! I had issues with TechStream connecting to my LX. Just make sure you don't plug in the cable until you have TechSream open, that is how it works for me.

I have done a lot of reading and researching and I have not come up with a clear answer regarding using Techstream to make cloned keys for my 4Runner. I was hoping some of you pros might be able to share some insight.

Scenario:
I bought a used 2007 4Runner and it only came with one VALET key. Not a master key. The valet key works to open doors and start the truck but as expected it does not open the glove box.
Can I somehow use this VALET key to make a MASTER key using Techstream? Maybe using the "Reset all keys and immobilizer" option?

I was able to get the original 5 digit MASTER key cut code and had a MASTER key cut which now opens the door and also opens the glove box but it obviously does not start the truck because it is not chip programmed. I have the cable and Techstream and everything working properly but I just need to know how to program a new MASTER key if all I have is a working VALET key. Thanks

Assuming that the process is the same as with the LC/LX the answer is no. A master key must be used to create another key, especially another master. The only way around this is to have the dealership potentially wipe the ECU for the immobilizer or find someone like @Mauser that potentially has the ability to get you a virginized ECU so that the system can have all new keys programmed to it.

Again, this is assuming that the process is the same (which is highly likely).

Decided to forego the Washinglee cable linked above and ordered this one instead as it was about $10 cheaper: Amazon product ASIN B087CZDF4H. Hoping to find success using this cable to get Techstream running with my 2006 LC. Will report back this weekend.

You will need to reset the immobilizer to add master keys. This is done with techstream. Your ecu will give you a 96 digit seed code that is entered along with the vin into a calculator that will give you a passcode. After a 16 minute countdown your immobilizer will be in registration mode and will allow you to add 2 master and one valet key.

Thank you Mauser!
Any idea what calculator I enter the 96 digit seed code and VIN into so I can get the passcode? :)

Thanks bud. No rush at all. I don't plan on working on it until the weekend (maybe Sunday) so I will reach out to you when ready. I appreciate the help! Good luck with that manifold. Hopefully you don't have rusted studs which break on you... yes I have had that nasty challenge before....sigh :)

I use this one:

Lexus, Scion, Toyota PASSCode Calculator / Generator: Calculate Pass-code by Seed number | Immobilizer Pincode Calculator (official website) - Best ICC alternative

If you aren't in too much of a hurry I can give you a token, but I am replacing the exhaust manifold on the wife's GX right now and am pressed for time.
