I can vouch for Racer and his product quality - I've seen his work up close and use it.

If there is room for a logo to adhere to look oem then i would take that. This option is better than not having a logo to me.

I have no problem applying mi own logo and tank you for your effort. A rubber mat may seem like a simple thing to create. But the fact is is very difficult to come out with the right material texture and finish to make resemble to a Toyota product. I have my old mat and if you look closely there are quite few little details that Mr. T developed to get good fit and finish. None of the big suppliers of Toyota products offer anything remotely close to the original mat.

Maybe the best way to settle this is to make a brown mat so that nobody gets what they want. Looks like it matches my Mustard Yellow truck pretty well :hillbilly:

Just my excuse to say that I love the interior of the final edition LX models:

Hi Racer 65
Here in the land down under I brought a moulded vinyl mat for my 1982 LX.
I paid $400.00 and something dollars. The mat fits were it touches but it is better than the one I have not got.
What would I pay for a good copy?
If I was on a tight budget the $400.00 mat would be at the top end of my spend . However some of us are a little more fortunate than others and have an open mind and budget when it comes to buying parts for our babies. So what would I pay?
$700.00 / $800.00 I think would be a fair price for a good after market mat.
On a complete tub off restoration this price would be within keeping of what the restorer has spent on the rest of his build.
Cheers

i will absolutely pay the 400 for the thickest BLACK mat you can afford to make at that price, but not a penny more and 100% will NOT buy it if its grey. sorry. i really really want this to happen racer65.

more than 400 and i cant justify it. you would be taking a lot on i know. hope it works out!!

gray works for me....but mine is a 82 ;)

when I got the darn 82, I of course had my parts guy get me a new floor mat......what I found out after I installed it.....it was the last one in the system :( (yeah I tried to order another)

Rick D told me to put the mat back in the box....he said they held moisture and someday that mat would be worth a lot of $$$.

the logo...its a non issue for me and I like the fact that it should keep someone from trying to pawn it off a OEM on Ebay. Funny thing is.....I can't say I even know where the logo is on the mat

so I would love to have a mat to put in the place of the OEM mat, and if in fact its better that's better

will it have the heater hose cut outs?
snaps for the other mats to attach to?

Bambi Girl,

Can you shed some light on the LHD vs. RHD question? Would the mat even work on an Australian Cruiser?

This question is super important actually, because I may look for an Australian dealer.

Hi Racer 65
I have an original LX mat .
The difference would be the cut out around the heater on our left and the steering wheel and peddles on our right.
I'm overseas till Friday . On my return I will take photos of the OEM mat so you can see your self.
Cheers

My 40 has never had a floor mat, but speaking from experience on my Mazda 3, I have worn through two carpet top, rubber bottomed, OEM Mazda floor mats where my heel pivots between the gas and brake pedals. I'm well on my way through the rubber weathertech mat I replaced the OEM mat with. Because of this, my vote is for thicker material. That said, the pedals in the truck are higher so I don't pivot on the floor as much - maybe a non-issue??

As for logo - I also have no idea where the logo is, nor do I care about it. I mostly want a nice, formed mat to fit the floor and trans-tunnel and provide some protection from the exhaust heat. I'm with @kruisinkid on this one. I'm pretty set on black, but I think I'd buy a thick black mat for ~$400 or a thin one for ~$300. This is right in line with what we would all have been spending buying an OEM mat, and, let's be serious - in the grand scheme of a FJ40 restoration - what's another $400. I've never seen a single one of your products up close but that said, all reviews are positive, they look great in pictures, and I'm fully convinced I'd be getting a high-quality product.

I will go so far as to say that $700-$800 as @Bambi Girl would absolutely price me out. Totally open-minded about this, and appreciative, but no way do I have "Bambi" level disposable income!

I'd be really interested to find out what year ranges are most common in Australia. Also curious about Middle East and South America.

My impression is that it's the later years, but this is based more on Ebay ads than anything else.

I am biased as well I suppose since mine is a "77 but I would pay $400 for a thicker BLACK mat. Probably would not be interested in a grey one. Toyota decal would be fun. I wouldn't mind at all if I had to stick it on myself.

Thanks Racer65. I hope this works out. I am thankful you are putting forth the time and effort to resurrect some of these old parts.

I would also be in for the $400-450 price range provided it was thick, black material. The logo would be a nice to have but it would not exclude me from purchasing one.

Racer, I voted for the "too much" option but that is right this minute. Actually, after reading these posts and reconsidering I think at some point I would spend $400 on a thicker black mat. Logo a non issue. And I'd love to see an installed prototype if you have one. Thanks for going the extra mile.

I vote for the 3 mil BLACK mat. I'm biased as I have a 78', if you end up going grey honestly I'd think twice. Just like in all my home improvement project there is nothing wrong with overbuilding things....

Very interested in the versatility to a RHD as my 75' FJ45 will be needing one as well and I'm pretty sure the floor pan/shifter alignment is the same as my 40.

If it's a one size fits all for LHD and RHD and you go black I'll be picking up 2 from you Racer!

Would like to get a sense of what kind of price point and compromises folks find to be the most acceptable with a reproduction FJ40 floor mat.

Had a "Reverend Jim" moment this AM. For those members who own an OEM mat with the prerequisite hole at the driver's heel, have you considered offering a "repair service" or a selling matching DIY panel section for the adventurous? I personally would drop a few sheckles to have my OE mat "Professionally" repaired. I don't think this would impinge on your "New customer" segment and may satisfy the OE owners. Just Say'en.

Racer, I have an aus mat in my us fj45 and it needed very little trimming. But 45 mats are different than 40's. I recently sold an nos mint black mat for a 40 for $800, sold in one day. I think the high end restos these days need a perfect mat and thus drives up the price.
