Had a "Reverend Jim" moment this AM. For those members who own an OEM mat with the prerequisite hole at the driver's heel, have you considered offering a "repair service" or a selling matching DIY panel section for the adventurous? I personally would drop a few sheckles to have my OE mat "Professionally" repaired. I don't think this would impinge on your "New customer" segment and may satisfy the OE owners. Just Say'en.

I actually had a OEM mat with that hole in it and was going to repair. But I ended up not doing that and now I no longer have it (don't ask). But I was just going to patch it up with Freesole rubber patch/sealant tinted black and dusted with baby powder to give it a matte finish. I'm not sure how it would've looked, but that stuff is really good - look it up. With the accelerator it dries up pretty quickly like 15 minutes.

I think there are creative ways to make certain home repairs to the mat, but I doubt it can be turned into a professional service that others would pay for, because the result will not be up to a satisfactory standard in most cases. You can't restore aged or dried out rubber whether it's a mat, a hose, a boot, or a tire. As mentioned previously, the OEM material was foam in the middle. It will absorb moisture and disintegrate over time. The top layer with the stepping pattern gets easily scraped up from wear and tear. Take a closer look at your mat and see what I mean. It's a lost cause to try to repair it.

I defer to your expert opinion in all things Unobtanium..Watching eagerly to see where this goes!

Both the thinner and thicker mat will be made of modern day PVC material, so it has inherent advantages over the original foam material. Take a close look at your OEM mat. It's foam in the middle sandwiched by 2 surface layers. The design is a recipe for deterioration. You can buy the cleanest OEM mat for $1000 on eBay and you won't be able to eat the cake you just bought.

The thicker mat should be the last mat you'll ever need. It has some additional advantages in that it has a firmer shape, and is less susceptible to moving around. This subtle point is more relevant for those of you without the shifter cut-out in the middle, because the shifter boot actually helps to anchor the mat.

In my opinion the thickest mat, although I still can't understand why they are that expensive, if my calculations are right it would take from 1,8 tot 2,5 liter of PVC material to make one, depending of the thickness chosen.

How is the production process? What is the mold made from ? is it a cold poor or an extrusion injection process?.

Once the investment of the mold is made the material and labor costs determine the pricing, regularly if volume goes up pricing goes down.

I'd be willing to pony up $400-$450 for a heavy gauge grey mat. Logo preferred. The 80 has the grey mat with the logo on the tranny hump.

I can vouch for Racer65 as Ive purchased a couple of parts from him. Excellent quality! I would pay 400 dollars for late model grey!

Thank you! we need this problem solved! Now that we are 2x (and climbing) our initial budget I would love to have Toyota OEM looking mats (logo preferred) to complete our restoration. I am a buyer and willing to preorder a thicker "BLACK" mat. I would love to get a cargo mat too if that is possible but I know that is much easier to re-create on my own. Have you considered taking deposits - say $100-300 (I will pay in full) to cover your start up cost? I have no idea how long or how much investment this would require but I feel confident that you can presell your orders to eliminate your risk. What is your target delivery date? I am happy to Paypal funds. I am serious and know you will make good money on this investment. Please reply PM or open and let's get some mats for our trucks! THANK YOU AGAIN.

Logo issue has been thoroughly evaluated. It's Toyota copyrighted and illegal to copy, on par with fake Gucci handbags and Rolex watches. The workaround is to give you a separate piece to glue on at home. I just can't do it for you.
What this means is that @Racer65 is using a legitimate machine shop for his tooling. One that won't risk their reputation and get sued for trademark infringement. It's a good sign.

Hi
A photo of the LX floor mat fitted to a 1982 Australian FJ40 RHD.
Looking at the cut of this mat I would say it would fit right or left hand drive.
Sorry I took so long to reply.
Good luck with your project
Cheers

Can you take another shot of the first orientation, but with the edges shown?

Here's what my '80 LHD looks like:

Hi Racer 69
I found the mat at the bottom of a box so hence the crumpled look.
I will put in the sun tomorrow and hopefully this will flatten it out for further photos.
Cheers

I'd go $400 for a grey mat, mines a '83 bj42. Racer 69 I think there is a split between black and grey, and you could benefit from each side, I would therefore recommend both colours and capture both customer bases.
I wouldn't mind spending a bit more but our Canadian peso is doing poorly against the US dollar.
Thanks you for taking this on, from what I read you supply a good product. Cheers.
