Light is best.

8,000+lbs in an 80 is A LOT.

I like mine at under 6k.

Cheers

I was 5500 with 35x12.5s, SR5 4runner 17s, and a steel front bumper. No 3rd row. Me and full tank of gas. No spare, my tool roll, and WK sliders.

Recently swapped to 275/85/17, with a spare under the rear on 17x9s. 10k Winch in the front. Arb twin under the passenger seat, and 1/0 running from battery to cab support the pump, ham radio and other accessories. Now 5720 with a full tank of gas and me.

Gonna weigh in it a couple of weeks with all the camp gear and family on our way out for a trip.

I’m on operation: lighten the 80! So far have pulled off 210# off the roof and 110# off the rear. Next steps are to slim down on my spare parts and gear I carry inside and possibly take out my drawers.

What’s the net gain or loss with the Campteq?
I see:
180# rear bumper
120# sliders
180# front bumper and winch
350# net gain interior
That’s 830#
Then maybe the Campteq adds a little weight to get you to 1100# or so. Sounds about right.

Eric said you gained 250lbs with the roof conversion and the kitchen set up. Minus the rear seats, sunroof and the metal roof. If roof conversion only you gained 30lbs over stock weight....Not bad

Last time mine was weighed was probably 10 years ago ish and it was 2.64 tonnes. The Australian legal GVM for an 80 series is 2.96 tonnes. I've reduced the weight in the rear a fair bit by taking out a lot of stuff I don't need, plus removing the left arm of the dual wheel carrier I fitted some years back. so if was to guestimate it'd be more like 2.4 to 2.5 tonnes now.

Remember that up to 1996 in Australia 80's were legally allowed to tow up to 2.5 tonnes then it was 'administratively' changed to 3.5 tonnes, so that's a max 250 kg download on the tow fitting, which is added to the vehicle weight when calculating it's gvm (ignoring the ATM and GCM for now).

So if I'd towed 2.5 tonnes when the 80 was 2.64 tonnes already, I'd have been overweight and illegal. Nowadays a 'standard' ute or 4wd is rated to tow 3.5 tonnes, so that's a max 350 kg towfitting download. I don't have a fancy portable toilet (caravan), etc. to lug around the countryside at 90 kph (my 80 struggles to do 100 on open roads being original 1992 1hz non-turbo).
