Greatest scam ever

Not seeing the problem. It does have a sticker with Toyota and a six digit part number. We all know OEM parts all have six digit part numbers right? I also notice it doesn't say it's for a RHD. I have a LHD version of this which I always thought was aftermarket part all these years. Being LHD probably worth twice the price of this one. Being it's in Florida guess I can charge the same for shipping.

What’s the scam? Other than being a bit overpriced and appearing a little different from most 40-series A/C units I’ve seen before. Seems just like any other unremarkable deal on eBay.

Was the shipping previously listed with an exorbitant fee? It just shows “request a shipping quote” when I look now.

I was referring to the shipping.

I don't recall OEM being that long with that many vents
my 1980 doesn't look like that

That sticker and expansion valve looks just like the one I’ve seen on dealer-added Ac units for early 60’s

My shipping quote says $900, much more reasonable

This is not OEM and it for a RHD. Where the controls are goes where the heater is would a lot of fun controlling this from a driver's seat on the left. I wasn't kidding when I said I have a left hand version of this. You can buy evaporators that look close too stock for a lot less. OEM units work with a stock heater this unit will not even in a RHD 40.

Mate, it’s Florida Man striking again… You wouldn’t expect a lot of genuine sellers in FL, few and far between in my experience.

That unit is a Customatic dealer add on unit made in Ft. Worth, Texas. Our '78 purchased new in Greenville, TX had that exact A/C. Our current 1982 has the same A/C. The label reads Toyota 82-194943. Assume the 82 is for the year application. Somewhere in the back of my 72 year old brain I remember my dad had a car with a Customatic A/C on it. Can't get a hit on the Internet about the company.

The original owner's daughter told me here dad had the A/C added after they made a trip to Daytona not long after her dad bought the truck. Story sound right since the original window sticker doesn't show dealer A/C added. We had to put a new compressor, drier and hoses on to make it function again.

That one eBay is way over-priced especially since it doesn't have anything but the condenser and air handler box. But if you were doing a period correct restoration and had money to burn it might be ok.

It was a dealer supplied item made by Clardy Manufacturing. It is for a LHD vehicle the pic just shows it upside down. It used a York compressor. Again it was was a dealer installed item. It won't show up on the parts fiche. It was period correct. It looks new to me. It's out of Boca which is right beside SET's headquarters. Could be something they sold or had at some point.

Now that makes sense on my Customatic! Clardy strted in the 1950s is still in the aftermarket a/c business and Haltom is suburb of Ft. Worth. Customatic must be the model. Our truck did have the original York compressor on it, but it was frozen.

I'd seriously consider buying it for $450 just for parts. The Clardy Customatic in my '82 FJ40 isn't in nearly as good of shape as that one and they sure don't make them anymore. Mine needs a compressor as well. I spoke to a local auto AC guy about mine and he says that he can retrofit a newer compressor and we'll just ditch that giant York boat anchor.

I’m actually pretty interested in it. Make up some different hoses and rock on.

We installed a few of those Clardy kits. It was the only game in town if you wanted A/C in a 40, until January '79 when factory-installed A/C was first offered. Even then most of the 40s coming in did not have A/C and Toyota was not selling kits so it was still Clardy if you wanted A/C.
