Got the 4Runner calipers on. They are huge and the City Racer wheels are thick.

I ground all I felt safe and then even had to run 1/8” slip on spacers.

Worth it if these things work good with no booster.

@orangefj45 sent me the backing plate eliminator stuff and stainless lines a few months ago and I lost them so he sent me new ones this week.

All I need is my line lock and this one will be ready to move off the lift. Until it’s time to put the driveline in.

Jumped in on assembling the motor today. Thanks @FJ60Cam for letting me (along with 1/2 the Cruiser world) bug you live today for some tips and tricks

I wire wheeled the motor and Zepp Oranged it then brake cleaner then paint

Next I flipped it over and did the pilot bearing and rear main and the oil pan gasket.

Overland Metric set off all the new powdered parts

Then according to Cam I put the timing cover on. Not tight then smacked the harmonic balancer on and used the M18 Fuel impact to hammer it home

Everything got Aisin FIPG Blue on both sides

Then I bolted up what I could to check stock in all my hardware and to gaze upon its beauty

On my 40 I was also working with a gauge cluster that has nothing working but the speedometer so I’m installing a simple two gauge cluster for temp and oil pressure.

I used this setup and it was a slick way to use the deep probe on the aftermarket pickups for temp.

Posting it here for reference.

Also you need to block off the EGR. I use the kit from Man A Fre.

You sure get alot done FAST...you could work circles around me o_O !!

A little motor mount tech

As for the mounts. Always use OEM. These are the 2F 4 speed smaller ones. The cheap Chinese ones will snap with a good load. Ask me how I know.

that said they have a little mole on top that fits in a groove inside the early motor mounts that are not on the later mounts.

I took an early 10mm hole mount for the passenger side and blew out the holes to 12mm in the drill press

The reason I picked the early one over the big AC mount was because the hole is actually farther out on the 60. When I used this style on my 40 we had to egg out the frame mount holes because it was about 1” off.

I chose to make the dimple under my 60 style driver mount versus drilling out the 10mm holes. It takes a 7/8” drill bit

It’s as though you were a man starved of restoration ! 🤣 It’s wngrog GONE WILD ! All that penned up creativity needing to be expressed...!

The making of a “badass” Goat, with your own personal signature added along the way..strengthening and improving upon a legend of a vehicle, making the greatest....even GREATER ! Are you gonna paint it ? Or keep it a stealthy “sleeper ?”

Who knows how far you’ll go now !? Do we need to send ya some meds ?
Always keep the receipts far away from Mrs. wngrog & keep all those empty OEM boxes you’re tripping over by now, outta sight 👀 !

Since I’m using the split case I lose my emergency brake. This is the third such early truck I’ve converted to a split case in my fleet. Project Patina and The Warthog 55 have split cases and I’ve been using a line lock for a quick ebrake now on both of them with great results.

Yes I know not to leave the truck somewhere on a hill it will kill someone if the thing were to magically stop working. That’s what leaving it off and in gear is for.

Anyway. That’s what I was waiting on to get the brakes bled.

These things have 1/8 NPT inputs and after I went directly into the unit I noticed On both my other trucks I had used copper 90s.
I pumped it it to 15psi and got it all bled out. No leaks.

I got in the truck and the pedal feels superb but I looked through the hump hole and the fittings into the Line lock were leaking like hell under real pressure

I had to pull it apart and add the 90’s Not as pretty of a line but it’s tight now. Stoked. That’s a BIG job when converting from 4 wheel drums and 9mm lines

This is the lock I’ve used. I put it on a lighted switch in the cab. Not the moment switch it comes with.

Moved back to the motor for a bit.

I’m going to be using a 60 series internal regulator alternator. This bypasses the old external regulator and sends power directly to the battery. I’ve been running this setup on my 40 for years and it’s simple and easy.

I love being able to preinstall the header to get a good even pull on the Remflex gasket by adding some 1/2 washers where needed. Remember. These things only have to be torqued to 25#

I bolted up the header. I’m using wrap for the first time on this build. @Texican and I have bantered about this on Facebook and neither of us has ever seen evidence of premature rusting out because of this stuff. I hate heat. I’m trying it.

I took this photo from 5’ so you can’t see my crappy welds on the O2 bung

I just realized when I was moving the Warthog around that I only have an oil pressure gauge in that truck.

Duh, the Sniper covers the temperature and voltage. I don’t need the cute probe dealio I bought for the upper radiator hose after all.

Back on the Goat some today. Snatched it out of the garage yesterday to help a friend install an H55 in his FJ60. In doing so I ended up buying his 4 speed and split case to go into the Goat.

She’s dirty but only has one leak in the tail I should be able to fix with a new seal

In the box was a oil filter holder from an F1.5 he parted. I like to 86 the oil cooler to simplify things. Problem is, this filter housing has no place to put an oil pressure gauge and in my case a place to put a 1/8” copper line for aftermarket.

And the Goat will get the honor of my very last large Toyota oil filter. May the part number Rest In Peace

FYI don’t use Zepp purple on aluminum. Holy crap that stuff etched it.

Back off to orange.

Cleaned up nice but that etched AL if going to be a mud magnet.
