@greenbeast Best of luck with this… when I was 21, (50 years ago) I could not warm up to it and had a friend who had one… we always took my FJ40 instead…once I started back in land cruisers…I absolutely LOVE it!

Hood has been little pain. Can’t adjust as mechanism frozen and won’t let me tighten. Hood likes to try and lift while driving on highway so made tractor supply and Walmart run and now it’s fixed. Amazing how squeaky that was.

Holes for hood latches already there with securing bolt. $6 fix

In the Navy, a friend made up a mix of diesel fuel and transmission fluid to use as a penetrating oil…never saw him have any rusted frozen parts as a marine mechanic

just passing that along

I’m big fan of Kroil, but the threads are tough to get to on the hood itself. I’m not giving up yet!

Haven’t heard of that concoction though

I use Kroil most of the time… always had the little can of liquid but i see they now have a spray can

Yeah it’s like a $1000 ha
When I used to have time to shoot more I used quite a bit of Ed’s Red a homemade bore cleaner that replicates a Vietnam-era military rifle bore cleaner, Mil-C-372B.

I also use it as a penetrating oil and it preforms exactly as Kroil at a fraction of the cost so there is always a restaurant style ketchup squeeze bottle on my work bench.

There are lots of variations on the interweb but this is the one I use.

CONTENTS: Ed's Red Bore Cleaner

1 part Dexron ATF, GM Spec. D-20265 or later. Older Ford Mercon and Mopar are also OK.

1 part Kerosene - deodorized, K1, also OK to substitute Jet-A

1 part Aliphatic Mineral Spirits, Fed. Spec. TT-T-2981F, CAS

#64741-49-9, or may substitute "Stoddard Solvent", CAS #8052-41-3, or

equivalent, (aka "Varsol")

1 part Acetone

We used Varsol on whitewall tires at the car wash in the ‘70s. one wipe and they come super clean and white… probably removes a layer of material 🙄

for interested parties…this little article details the how’s and why’s of Ed’s Red Bore Clearner….that @J Mack had posted

Found this random rubber strip, does this look like the rubber for window channel the glass sits in on doors? That’s what I’m thinking but don’t want to get my hopes up?

Thanks for letting me stop by, Jon. Great to see you and Kim again and an excellent dinner.

And most of all, thank you for going with me to visit Chris and letting me drive the pig back home….

Until next time, friend.

Trip took us couple hours to pay our respects, about half highway, half country road. Pig runs like a dream. Figure we put another 120 miles at least yesterday. Such a joy to drive!
